Whwn and Why Do We Get Spam Mails??

I have been using gmail for a long time.I get some mails in spam.I still can't how,why,when these messages are coming.Are These mails harmful??.How can i handle these mesages??

Just ignore them. It's very easy to identify if the email is a spam or not. Maybe you keep on giving out your e-mail address to some untrusted websites when signing up. The good thing about gmail is that, they can identify if the mail is a spam or not and filters them so It won't go directly in your inbox. Yahoo also does that.
