A suggestion to improve myLot.

It seems that new members often post "spam" or poor quality discussions when they first join myLot. My suggestion is that new members should not be allowed to start a new discussion until they have replied to at least 20 discussions. This would discourage people from making accounts just to post spam topics, as they would have to post 20 replies first. It would also make new members read other topics and lean a bit about what makes a good topic before starting their own. What do you think?

I can see why you think what you just said, but i havent really come across too many spam discussions to be honest with you, and i think that those ideas may just discourage new members, and the spammers will just spam on other peoples discussions. I think the current system of just taking down spam discussions is working just fine for the moment!

You make a good point about people leaving spam in other peoples discussions if this is implemented.

Look i am a new member too,but i don't spam and i hate the people who spam.I guess you are right at this and you make a good point but the things should be different.Well another idea is to gather points like 1 point by posting a comment on a disccussion and if you have 200 points to start new discussions.Thank you for reading my comment.Good luck with this point.:D

it would be better that instead of block everyone, ban the spammers it's more effective and it woul disencourage spammers, 'cayse they'ld see that they could be banned, i still don't know, do they have admins watching the site? Or they just look when something is flagged?

There are admins who work hard on here. This place would be full of spam without their efforts.

Totally agreed with your point . All the credits for keeping mylot spam free goes to the Mylot admin / moderators who keep the track of all the posts and delete the spam posts. Mylot would not be a great success without their effort to keep it a spam-free site. So, thumbs up for the Mylot team..

I think that's a bit harsh as some people have a better understanding than others. I think a warning system should be in place. Three warnings then you are out. Each warning comes with a reason for the warning telling the member what they did wrong and a recommendation that they read the guidelines, FAQ, and Terms of Service. The third warning should let the person also know that the next time they do something wrong they will be forever deleted and to make sure they do not come back their isp (or whatever that number is that says who we are is called) should be recorded.

No, I think the word "warning " has to be used otherwise some people will just ignore. If they ignore the Guidelines, FAQ and TOS, they will ignore a notification...you have to smack some people....lol

Hmm A warning system is good but how would mylot deliver the warning? By mail? MOst newcomers don't even open their emails to read those notifications of their discussion being deleted that's why they go furious and go make another discussion about their deleted discussion. If it would be a pop up system like the rewards system I doubt mylot can actually instantly determine what discussions are of quality. The notifications of deleted discussions serves as a warning, right?

It is a good idea but let us be fair and not generalize the situation. Although it is true that there are in fact many new members who, as you have said, often spam or start poor quality discussions, there also those that start out good. There are policies here so the admin will have to take care of all offenders, it will then serve as a lesson to starting mylot members to reconsider whatever discussion they start if they do decide to. By allowing them to start a new discussion early, it also helps them see and appreciate the earning system early, that is if the quality of their discussion deserves it.

I understand your point, but you can earn from replies as well as starting discussions, so I don't really think it would hurt a new member. It is not as if it is difficult to make 20 replies, someone who is genuinely interested in taking part in the site can do this in a day with no problems.

Still, starting a good one as a first post would really be something.

hmm.. I've posted many discussions lacking quality...for ma first few posts...still.. I never meant to spam here.... I lacked experience... totally unaware of what myLot actually was.....when I signed up.. I think Misiufraggle's suggestion is a better intro for rookies to myLot....

I agree also. I have also received emails from people not on my friends list to come and join sites with their sign up url. I just delete such messages. Maybe only be able to email your friends also.

How can you receive emails from people not on your friend list? You can only receive emails if you have given someone your email address.

Good idea - spam messages annoy me too!

Hello Misiufraggle. Your idea is a good one but it wouldn't take people long to just leave a quick "hello" on 20 discussions so I don't think it would make much difference. Anyway not all new members post spam and bad quality, I know a lot do but holding every newcomer back just because some have no common sense is wrong.

You make a good point - it could just lead to people leaving spam replies in other people's discussions, you are right.

I don't think this will work... Everybody will have the curiosity of doing new things when they enter into something new.. So thats the way, newbies start some discussions in their early stage. There is no harm in it.. Whether they start quality discussion or improper , it doesn't matter.. Everybody should be given a fair chance.. Everybody will be learning their way when they post... Their curiosity should not be blamed or blocked!!!!

I like your idea. Reaching 20 is not even hard to achieve. They can do that in one day if they like. At least they will understand the rules first.

Absolutely, 20 replies can be done in no time, plus of course they will still earn from these replies.

yeah, i agree with you misiufraggle, there should be some policy to stop/prevent spamming here on mylot. Well most of the user come here, post there questions and then just go away. They dont even bother to give a reply to their question. Also, many new members try to spam by adding up friends and then spamming through pm. This step will definitely reduce spamming and the users will come up with more quality posts. Also, i too had 1 suggestion to improve mylot. There should be an "Edit" button so that we can edit our post which might have some error or we need to add some more details in it. This feature will also be beneficial to the users.

Well that would be good and that would be bad too. It's good because when you think about it it would really lessen the spam discussions but what's bad is that it would seem mylot is labeling new comers as spammers in general. 20 posts is not that big if you just really want to spam you can do it even if you have already a hundred posts. It's not always the new comers to post spam like discussions there are oldies too that do spam post at times. The best way to lessen those spammers is to not answer their discussions that are seemingly or most likely a spam or a not of quality post. I'm sure good mylotters really reads the discussions they are answering so they can identify if that certain discussion is of quality or not. The search button is also provided for us to use so we can avoid making duplicate discussions and stuff

I agree with you! And in addition, myLot can prohibit users from posting anything in the first hour after registering, too. MyLot should use all the possible method to discourage guys who only register for spamming from registering.

Spam is a real problem everywhere on the internet. Mylot actually has less than many similar sites.

I'm 3 days old here in mylot and I can't think of any sensible discussions. I only start a discussion when I need something. You're right. Spams are less here in mylot because if there were a lot, our accounts could have been hacked. I have also noticed, we can't do copy paste on the box where we type in a new discussion, or comment. What good topic should we talk about anyway?

i really dont think it is a good idea. ya maybe some people are spamming but it isnt fair for the people who are really replying truthfully. i mean i just started doing this but i see no point in spam because its actually fun seeing wat people say or reply to my comments

Thanks for taking part in this discussion, I agree spam on here is really pointless.
