What do you my fellow mylotters feel about the discovery of a massive underwater river flowing along the bottom of the black sea and found out by scientists? It is estimated that if on land, the undersea river would be the world's sixth largest in terms of the volume of water flowing through it.Researchers working in the Black Sea have found currents of water 350 times greater than the river Thames flowing along the sea bed, carving out channels much like a river on land,as reported by The Telegraph. The undersea river, which is up to 115 feet deep in places, even has rapids and waterfalls as discovered by scientists at the university of Leeds. It is a breathtaking discovery do you agree?

It would as you say be quite interesting to explore and discover for ourselves these wonders of nature. There are subterranean rivers.Indian mythology is full of those and recent findings of Indian experts highlight those facts. It would be marvelous if we as tourists could look at these nature's beauties or a documentary is made showing this nature's wonder.

I have heard of these before, but not this one. It does seem very strange for this to be happenings. It is fun to find there are things yet to be discovered in our world.

What you say is true there are under the surface lakes and rivers. But this is the first time I've heard of a river that flows below the surface into the sea.The more scientists and explorers set their mind to it we seem to gather new and interesting facts. Its both fascinating and interesting.

It's a wonder. When I read this, I imagined that there must have been land before with people living in community surround it. They were buried deep under the sea when there was the flood as described in the bible which drown most of the universe. I like to read about geology or geographical findings like this. Thanks for sharing it.

Wow that is cool. It says in the Bible that man will never know all the creatures of the land and sea. I think there will always be mysteries surrounding bodies of water too. I don't think we are supposed to know everything about this planet but it is an amazing planet.

There is still a lot to discover about this world we live in. Some times we think we have discovered it all. The scientists are still finding new animals and insects all the time as some go extinct. We live on an amazing planet. Oh I found an article that reads pretty much the same as your Indian article does.http://blog.taragana.com/science/2010/08/01/huge-river-discovered-flowing-on-black-sea-bed-19814/

I accept your view that there is a lot to discover and explore the world we are living in.I too have read many a time that new species of insects, birds and animals are being discovered and some become extinct. The article has been published in Indian papers now and i don't deny that it could have been published earlier in the website you've mentioned. It was new to me and i wanted to highlight it.Prior to this day i wasn't aware of it.

Well it is fascinating because you don't think that deep below any sea there could be rivers which are similar to what we have up here on land. But at the same time it makes you wonder how many other underwater rivers there are out there and also whether these naturally forming features have some form of ecosystem specific to them which survive thanks to the flow of water and formation of a pseudo river bed.

It is quite intriguing to know that below the sea there could be a river of that magnitude.I do corroborate your view that more research could yield many such underwater rivers. These rivers could have an ecosystem suited to their environment.I fully accept your view that the flow of water from these rivers could help sustain life typical to these ecosystems.

This to me is a new discovery, but my friend has reminded me that it has appeared earlier in a website and he has provided a link to me and all who are interested. It is certainly breathtaking.I think scientists will venture into the ocean and discover the species that exist there. When they discover the species that exist there they will i assume be never have been seen earlier anywhere as they have to adapt to the circumstances there.

This article has been published by Indian newspapers called "The times of India" and "The Indian express" of Hyderabad editions dated 2nd august,2010.The source of the news is called AGENCIES.Both the papers are giving credit to "The Telegraph" which i believe is a British newspaper. But they do not quote a website hence i can't provide you one.I think if we scan the Website of "The telegraph" we might get more information. Thanks for your interest and contribution to this discussion.

An excellent find :-)
Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get down there, set up hydro-electric generators & run the country!
I'm not sure what life will be found down there... I've heard there's heavy radioactive gases like radon down in those places & we won't be white water rafting there anytime soon.
How else could we make use of this find? Any ideas?
