Friend request from (0) ? Deny them

Lately there have been many members who have been adding friends even before their first post. Ofcourse most probably those are spammers. I don't approve them, always deny. Hope you guys are doing the same denying them. Can we report them immediately even BEFORE they spam us?

Hi damned_dle, How very true... I joined Mylot seven months back but could not log into the website due to other reasons. One day a friend of mine referred me this site and I tried creating my login. I was surprised to find that my Id was still here. Snow I am active here and haven't yet received requests for friendship, though I have made a few friends. Anyways, As far as the response to your question goes, my exprience from other sites tells me that having friends does not create any issues with such sites. Yes, its we who do not like spam msgs and mails. So what I do is this - When I get a friends request, I send them a msg stating that I do not like spam and if they do spam me, I would remove them. Then let the person in question decide. If I get a positive response within a couple of days, I accept the request. If not, the request is denied. Again, If anyone (who is a friend) spams me, I politely ask him not to repeat. If s/he does, I remove the person from my friends list. A Tedious process, but doing worthwhile. It helps socialize.

there is no harm in accepting them, they can't do any thing or steal any thing from you. its all depend on you. if they send unnecessary personal message then you can delete from friend request. its not a big deal. we are here to make friends......so go on...

Hi, damned I have four requests right now. I have not accepted them yet because they do not seem to have any activity for several days now. They have not even started a discussion yet. I do not like to deny them also because maybe they are just too busy to log in again here in Mylot. I will accept their request once I see them moving. Have a nice day!

I am with you. Sorry I didn't see this discussion before I started mine on a similar line. I was pretty muc venting about this very thing! They have no posts, no discussions started and they want me to join up on another site under them! It's outrageous!

They don't really happen all that much. For the most part it is a very helpful community!

Not to worry. The worse they can do is to spam your messages.

Is there a way to differentiate between new mylotters (like me) and spammers? I have a pending friend request like the one you are describing. Should I wait to see if he posts any discussions, etc. before denying the request, and is there any benefit to denying right away or waiting? I have NO interest in perpetuating spam but do not want to accidentally reject legitimate friendship requests, especailly since I am new myself.

Don't worry, the most they can do is to spam your messages here. You can delete them anytime you want to

I don't accept those either as I am not sure about them at all, and I have a lot of friends now, that I really don't need a whole lot more. Now, don't get me wrong, friends are great, but there comes a point, where it can be way to many, and hard to keep up with them all. I finally had to turn off most notifiers, as I was getting bombarded in my email, with new discussions. I think the new ones when they come in, they will just pick users at random to be their friends. Lately, i have been selective as to who I will have as friends. I would prefer that they be here awhile before I accept them as a friend. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I used to accept all of the friend requests I get. I don't do that anymore. The people on my friends list are not spammers but I don't like their post so when I go to my 'friends started' tab they are full of crappy posts. I plan on deleting most of them and leave only the ones who start interesting discussions.

also did the same, at first accepted them all, but then I started to keep in mind that you say, then if in a couple of days to zero are simply not accept them, but I took a couple of days to see what their behavior here.

I used to accept all of them. I would be proud if i were to be their first friend here! they would be able to see all of what i have posted if i was their only friend. Most likely they will be the ones who will make a comment first on my post which is very noticeable. I don't have any problem with anything like that. and it is really not an issue to me. If they are spammers, they can do nothing to lure me with their traps.

You could give them a chance and see how active they are but if I was you I would probably reject them straight away it's not like there's a shortage of friends :P I hate spammers so much I wouldn't give them the chance to spam me.
