I don't really think an apple a day keeps the doctor away but that's what older people used to say to me when I was a kid. Great thing about apples is that they can make your teeth look whiter and it is also a nutritious fruit but it doesn't really mean that because it's nutritious it can keep the Doctor away. Because our body does not need just apple to be healthy, it needs exercise, proper sleep and a proper diet in short we need to have self dicipline to be more healthy and active for the Doctor to be away.

Hi crizjordan!
I believe that "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" is actually a metaphore for eating any kind of fruit. Even though apple is very healthy. It is rich with dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin A and most important it doesn't have much calories. Of course, if you would only be eating apples it won't do you any good at all... Sleep, proper diet and exercise are the most important for health.
Take care and happy mylotting!
P.S. I'm not sure, but I don't think apples will make your teeth whiter, it will only make them stronger.

I think eating fruits is what keeps the doctor away, it doesn't have to be an apple, other types of fruits are okay too. So eating your favorite fruit does, I would say!

I agree with you , crizjordan . Healthy living keeps the doctor away ... I guess, they just used the term apple to make the quotation more catchy...

Well, to be honest, the apple is a great source of fibre and can keep a person regular. People always feel better when food moves smoothly through their system and they have less digestive complaints. So I do think that in many cases this statement has a lot of truth to it.
