Why do people idolatrize stars?

My opinion is that nobody should be treated like gods, because everybody is human. Of course, stars have something special but they are only humans. We should only love their work and give them appreciation but not humiliate ourselves when they are in our area. There are people who sleep in the street nights just to be sure they can get a ticket and get an autograph or a photo. I am firmly convinced that the celebrities are more concerned of getting paid well then how their fans are. What is your opinion? please share

It is because people want what celebrities have. It's like high school. There is the popular people, the jocks, and everyone else. Everyone always wants to be like the popular people or the jocks because they have all of the fame and the glory, but not everyone can be famous.
Celebrity is no different. People want to be stars, they want to have money, they want to be "VIPs", they want to be pro-athletes, and they want to be known for something.
I would like to be a famous writer like J.K. Rowling or Stephanie Meyer (I cannot stand "Twilight", but I will admit that that series made a lot of money). J.K. Rowling is so rich from the "Harry Potter" series that she has more money than the queen. I would love that kind of financial security.

Maybe, but I think she is living a much better life now than where she came from. J.K. Rowling came from pretty much nothing, and thanks to the success of Harry Potter, she is living pretty comfortable life now.

I think who is more far away seems more perfect. People even idolatrize like the most popular guy in the school for example. If someone is known for many people the more this person is treated like an important person.
After being disapointed to Harrison Ford being an a** with this wife, Mel Gibson betraying his, Angelina Jolie killed animals years ago, Madonna doing the "Rather go naked than wear fur" campaign in the 90's and now actually wearing I really don't idolatrize them.
I just love Michael J.Fox still but he is a great human being. I think there are too many dirty things in Hollywood, we just didn't know about but now the papparazzis helped us to show their true colors.
And the beauty? That's plastic surgery.

I appreciate this so called stars only for what they do on stage, stadium or where they activate. What they do in their personal life I don't care, it is their problem, for me they are regular persons, and I don't go ballistic when I saw them on the street. For me the "stardom" starts and ends on the place of their activity and do not go out in day by day life.

I guess it is because they seem so glamorous with all that luxury around them, how they dress how they look... like they are flawless... at least that is what the camera is trying to sell to the fans, and its doing it well.It is all play out... at video clips of songs, at movies they always seems so perfect, I think that is what the fans are falling for... Can't blame them I guess, also it is depends on the person's personality.

In my opinion,as you know, stars or others are just humans,so they may have many expects?desires:they want wealth, health, station, reputation and so on.We idolatrize stars for we everyman can not get what they have received in our whole life.Yes?So,we want to get it from our idols.Do you think so?

because the society says so, the society set standards and gullible persons follow it. I too believe that idolizing to the point of doing stupid things like going crazy when seeing stars is stupid, but some people buy it..

I don't think it's right to "worship" anyone other than God. That's just my belief though. I don't know why people go crazy over these other people. I agree with you. It's just silly and it makes people look quite foolish. They are people just like us, just because they make lots of money we should go gaga over them? Not me...

I guess people have fantasy about being superstar superfit supersexy living a life of famous and luxury .All this possible giving out by celebrity of sports , entertainment and super rich busineman with their savvy fashion clothing and trophy wifes girlfriends in their super big luxury yacht and never ending partities from one continent to next continent.

It's ok to be a fan but idolatry is a NO!NO! and you are right, we can only give that 100% crazy things to God only, our effort, our energy, our love, but yes we can still show our appreciations to their talents, but anyway I guess some fans doesn't have the power to overcome their emotions towards their idols...but hopefully we can give more appreciations to our God than anybody else, and anything in this world even to our future, I hope people will really value God above all because He value us above all.

I'm not quite sure why they do. But my guess would have to be is because the stars are just inspiration and they are living their dream which they wish they could be living right now.

i share your thought.honestly,i really find it pathetic when people idolize stars to the brink of insanity, obnoxiousness and blindness.Like a certain fan clubs will go to any lengths just to give their idols a cute memento, fight for their idols and turn blind eye on their idols negative traits.Hello, those stars are obviously richer than them, needs those controversies to make noise and are also human that sits on toilet bowl and has foul smelling fart-but to an avid fan a star's fart may even smell gucci. However, when i try observing those mates of mine who go gaga on a celebrity. I think the reason why people idolize stars because they feel inadequate.they feel that that those stars are invincible that could battle anything they couldn't face.people look up to those who they think is a persona of perfection.to escape the ruins in the world they seek comfort to the fantasy world that stars give to their followers.

My take here is that people have completely lost it. The Bible states that we shouldn't worship any other gods but our God Himself in Heaven. I do not believe that worshipping the grounds where the celebrities walk on is the way to go. That's a complete no. Let's focus our mind to God Almighty and nobody else. We can only take the good things they do but not to go absolutely beserk when we come across them.

I would definitely agree that idolizing actors, athletes, etc is not a very good thing. I would rather have my kids look up to a character that is not real than to follow the words and gestures of a person. It will only lead to disappointment. They are all just people. Just because they are on the tv certainly is no reason to think they are the be all end all. They aren't even close to perfect, as we have seen many times. The media is just out to tear them down to ruin your perception of them.
I guess people feel the need to idolize becaus they are not happy with their own lives. By having theses people to look up to, they can feel better about themselves. For things like sports, it is a social interaction. Be part of this group if you like this team or player. Look how carried away it has gotten when cities are building billion dollar stadiums with tax payer money and players get $100 million for playing a childs game.
If we could break this cycle, think of what could be done better with all that money.

I will go with rogue, i don't really care about the actors and all but music means much to me! Gavin Harrison is kind of my idol, with a unique style of his own, the best progressive drummer, three years in a row! Wow, i wish i could rock the stage as he does. I am too lazy to go have his autograph, fighting myself in a crowd.

I think your right to a point. Some people do go overboard when it comes to celebrities. Like with Michael Jackson, you see countless people going crazy just at the sight of him. I mean he was extremely talented and made himself successful, but he was human and made countless mistakes and regardless of the things he did people still think he is the greatest person ever and won't even believe he did anything. They deny it just for his sake. That happens with almost all the celebrities, they get forgiven by the people because they believe they are so perfect and better then everyone else. I really don't think it's fair.
