Where to find knock-off recipes?

I like eating out but sometimes it gets so expensive. So sometimes I search for recipes that are similar to famous food. For example, a recipe for KFC Fried Chicken and their gravy, or for Mocha Frappucino of Starbucks, or for the El Pollo Loco Chicken and Salsa. Some have tried to copy these famous food and have posted their recipes. Do you know of any sites like these?

Those are secret formulas so it is very hard to obtain it. There are lots claiming that this is and that is the formula, but when you cook it, it's totally different.

I have the Wagamama cookbook, and the recipes I've made from it are remarkably alike to the ones you get in the shop. when I made the chilli chicken men, we both agreed that the basic flavour was pretty much spot on, and would have been just right if the chillies we'd used had been hotter. as for things like KFC, well in all honesty, you can make better yourself at home, using good quality ingredients. with home made fried chicken, you can tweak the seasoning so it's just right, and you can use free range chicken, so that the meat tastes good, has a better texture, and isn't made from abused animals. home made burgers are also very much tastier than any in a fast food place

I had no idea there was such a cookbook, but it sounds really cool, I am sure a lot of people would like having one like that! What other recipes are there in it? (if you don't mind telling us, of course..)

they have the book on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wagamama-Cookbook-Cookery-Hugo-Arnold/dp/1856265102/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1280832643&sr=8-1 there are A LOT of recipes in here, certainly much more than they have on the menu curently, and it includes the recipes for things like the dipping sauces too. side dish wise they have the recipes for lots of types of yakitori, things like the tori kara age, which is one of our favourites, recipes for different types of ramen, gyoza, there's even some of their desert (although not as expansive as their main and side dish recipes, as there's a few of their current deserts I'd like to have a go at making that aren't in there) and even some of thir fruit juice recipes too. there tends to be a lot of preparation involved in the recipes, but as I said, the results are very very close to what you get when you eat there.

Thanks so much for your comment! I'm pretty interested in that cookbook of yours too. I might just look for one, if I can find it. I agree with you though, that sometimes it's better to make your own recipe to suit your taste. But sometimes I crave for a buffalo wings I've tasted at some resto or the curry at another. But thanks so much again!

The place I know to check is copykat.com for restaurant recipes. They don't have everything but many recipes from well know restaurants.

Yes. I was about to suggest that site. They really try to copy the real thing, that's why they called it copykat.

i agree. it really is hard to get these recipes as they are top secret more often than not. I suggest you try surfing the web, maybe you'll come across one that can come close to the real thing.
