Safe to eat or not?

I opened up a sealed box of fruit rolls today - and discovered something really weird. The individually wrapped fruit rolls were out of their packaging inside the box. I gave my daughter the one that was still in the wrapper.
What would you do, would you still eat them? Like I said, the BOX itself was sealed, but the rest of the fruit rolls are not. They may dry out too since they aren't inside the wrappers. I've never seen something like this before.
Your thoughts?

I might do that... I'll tell the store when I opened it, that's what it looked like. the problem though is that I let my daughter eat the one that wasn't unwrapped, so it would be missing one roll. They may still let me, I bought it from the store I shop at all the time. I don't want a refund, I would just prefer another box lol.

as a mother, my child safety comes first... whenever something is suspiciously unsafe...I would rather not give it than risk having a guilty conscience if my child would catch stomach ache or something because of something I gave her to eat.

Yes, it just seemed strange to open up a sealed box and find them mostly out of the wrappers inside. I think they're okay because the box was sealed, but it bothers me that they were unwrapped. It's almost like someone was playing a game of football with the box in the store.

OK maybe I'm weird, but I'd eat them, but I wouldn't let my kids eat them.

I don't think that I would feed the remaining fruit roll-ups to my family. I would probably call customer service for the company and let them know what had happened (they might send you coupons for free product) and I would also return the box with the messed up rolls to the store where you bought them for a refund. There have been many times that I've had to return something to the grocery store and they are usually pretty good about returns.

I think the wrappers were just shaken off of the rolls because of the shipment. I believe there's really nothing wrong with them. But if you're really not sure, you better follow the most important food rule: When you're in doubt, throw it out. The safest way to be sure that you and your daughter wouldn't catch a stomach ache is to throw the food away. It's a waste yeah, but better be safe than sorry right?

Thanks! Yeah, it just seemed bizarre to me that only one out of six was still IN the wrapper. I usually buy these in bulk at Costco in a big box that has like 50 in it. I have never seen one from the big box outside the individual wrapper. This small box I got was from the grocery store. I guess I'll figure out what to do with them before she asks for another one.

I wouldn't give them to my kids just to be on the safe side. I would contact the company and let them know what happened. They will most likely send you a coupon for a replacement box or 2. Depending on how long it has been since it was packaged I am sure it is fine, but you never know.

Hi, mommyboo. I think that as the product was shipped from the warehouse to the store, the wrapper could have gotten off of it by accident. If many are out of the wrapper vs only one that is still in the wrapper, it is best to just throw them away, just to be on the safe side. There is just no telling, what really happened to these fruit rolls.

That sounds suspicious. I would either take them back to the store and also notify the company. Hopefully the store will give you a refund, if not the company should at least give you one or a coupon to replace the product. I would not eat the ones that are out of their packages. I mean it could be something as simple as the glue or water that holds them closed somehow unstuck, but I still wouldn't take a chance, not in today's society. They are supposed to be wrapped for a reason. The store should give you a refund, again, notify the company because if this is happening to others hopefully they will let them know of it too and the company can fix the problem.

I think there's a reason why they needed to be wrapped and if its not wrapped then maybe its not as good as it should be if you compare it with the other rolls that are wrapped. Though its just a factory defect, i think if I am in that situation I am not going to eat it but if it were my dad or my husband, for sure they are going to eat it.

I wouldn't eat them. I think the advice that you have been given is sound advice. Since they were not properly packaged, they may have been exposed to germs or bacteria that would make you or your child sick. Usually there is a place on boxes that says a toll free number to call if you are not completely satisfied. I would call that number because chances are if you received a package like that someone else has too. It needs to be reported so it can be taken care of before someone becomes ill from eating improperly packaged fruit roll- ups.

Maybe the other rolls of fruit are not yet required to be sealed.maybe it there are inside the wrapper fruits may dry fast as often.

Caution is the parent of safty. I have had this experience before, and remember that I returned it to the store, just in case. Our health should be treated carefully, especially for the child.

I think, to be safe... you should not eat it neither give to your children or else you will repent at the end. Don't you ever do things if you are doubted
