Hi, There are many ways you can get information about your hardware. For DDR RAMs the primary identification criterion is the notch on the RAM slot Read the article for further information http://technolocus.blogspot.com/2010/05/ddr-ram-explained.html To get other information on your motherboard and memory go to command prompt and use the command systeminfo. There are freewares available to extract information about your hardware. Look into My PC is one such software. These softwares are extremely useful in downloading drivers when you don't have any prior information about the motherboard. Thanks. God bless you

Based from your specs, it would be better to upgrade your whole computer rather than just upgrading your RAM which would cost you more.

you could try to search for the model of your motherboard and from their you can find out what type of RAM does it support.. DDR3 is out of the choices because it is a newer version of RAM, DDR1 probably..

Hello venkit, DDR1, DDR2, and DDR3 memory are not compatible with one another. That means, if your PC uses DDR1 RAM, then you cannot use DDR2 or DDR3 RAM. The best way to determine the type of RAM in your computer, is to open up your PC and look at the RAM that are already installed on the motherboard. The label on the RAM will tell you what type of RAM you have. For example, if you see wordings like PC-2700, then it's DDR1. If the wordings are PC2-5300, then it's DDR2. Since your computer is old, the chances of it using DDR3 RAM is very slim. And since you only have 256MB of RAM, it's time you upgrade. I would recommend that you add another 1GB RAM to your computer, as RAM are cheap nowadays. With the added RAM, your PC should run smoothly and faster.

There should be something in that RAM. Like its speed, and if its ddr2. The slot differs too. But the best way is to know your mo bo brand AND model.

I have bought RAM twice. A 1GB DDR2 which I bought 1 year ago and 2GB I bought just last week. You need to check your RAM which is attached on your motherboard. It is necessary to check out what type of RAM it is (DDR1, DDR2, DDR3) before upgrading or buying a RAM because it may cause incompatibility and the RAM you bought would be a waste.

ok, thats why i am trying to know which type of RAM my system is having. does the lower version be supported. if i buy DDR1 then will it be compatible in DDR2 slot?
