I guess no wonder International Flight Associations had rated PAL down for some reason.
not just poor equipment and gadgets but also bad treatment against airline personnel.
Most specially Pilots...
there had been reports of more than ten pilots and even it's Captains resigning from their JOB in PAL. this is yet another challenge to the Government, most specially for Pnoy.
this is really going to affect tourism, imagine lack of pilots and some planes are on the ground.
I guess this is expected but of course this country isn't the only country experiencing this kind of STRIKE. lately i heard this in the US and UK as well...
Anybody wants to take over PAL

hello there zed, not just the training but also their spending in training itself, before they become pilots they decided to at least pay huge amount for their training. it's sad this has been happening and they finally gave in to the maltreatment that they've been receiving in that airport.

There should always have a window for pilot and other personnel in PAL (or in any company) for compensating their good hardwork as far as their role and job is concerned. That basically include some points in the pay, privileges and good relationships within. Nevertheless, our tourism and other country segments can't escape the fact of being affected or shall i say they are embracing their worst nightmare and that's serious. If I may suggest, to all those who will be taking over those lost seats, let's note about what happened this time and put a mindset of taking this into learnings for "future flights".

i remember watching episode about flight schools aren't doing much of a quality education that they leave their students hanging as their instructors do nothing on their training. as for this one, they have been enduring these for years.

I thought when Lucio Tan bought this airlines from the government they would be oky already. I was wrong since they took over the airlines I think it went further down the lane. I am saddened that our national flight carrier is not able to get good impression because of this.

Lucio Tan bought PAL? they should make a report to the President on regarding to it's management. well, it doesn't take a genius to noticed the deterioration. when the new Terminal two was built, the washrooms were all but new. every thing changes almost half a decade later

This is one proof that FILIPINOS are now educated. They know their rights now and no one can take it away from them. One thing that make this issue sound bad is that, the economy is crippled the everytime there is a single that is cancelled for any reason.

Entrepreneurs and ventures aren't gonna like it. it makes me wonder again why Richard Gordon should have won. there are airports in his City of Origin in Olongapo, which is really amazing, because he proposed numerous sea and air ports in his campaign. yes, economy will be crippled more than ever this continues.

I heard on the news yesterday that those pilots are under a 5 year contract with PAL. I also heard that some are paid almost half a million pesos every month. And some are taking home a net pay of 90 thousand pesos a month, what the heck are those pilots are griping up for? . When majority of those who are working are earning 10 to 20 pesos a month, those guys don't know how to count their blessings. If they're really that discontented with how PAL's management then the least they could do is honor their contract and leave as soon as they're done with it.

I don't know the real situation there too. but what's worth of having a large sum of money when they are badly being treated, i don't know the whole story but there must be worth something that is lacking than just money. like in the CSR industry, what's worth high salary if you're going to get sick or have heart attack. is there any link where you have found this so that i can read it..am sure those who are earning the amount that you mentioned are still in pal. i thought the regular once where earning only 30k

PAL management has to resolved this problem. This situation really affects the tourism and economy of our country when some flight schedules be cancelled or even in some delay for any reason. The latest news i've heard that about more than 20 pilots now tendering their resignation from their job in PAL.
Soar high pilots!
Give chance to other airlines to takeover PAL.

I guess PAL should re-think how they are treating their pilots and employees. I'm talking about compensation and benefits and long term employment. I think these are the things that their employees' are crying out for. You can't really force them to work under terms they don't want unless they're bound to a contract, which they are.

Hello Dax,
Well, based on the news, it's not just the benefits, but also the bad treatment of higher management to them. if they are under-paid? duh! it's not riding a bike job, they need to be properly taken cared of. flying a plane takes experience, extensive training and responsibility to passengers who are on that plane.

at some point we can blame the situation to fellow professional who think of their self before the welfare of the country, professional that chose to leave the county for a bigger salary not only pilots but every profession, they think of the future of themselves and not the future of the country, at some point you can't blame them to dream for a better life.
But a sense of nationalism would make you think twice to sacrifice a bit for the sake of the country. What will happen if all the professional and expert will leave the country?
I also heard the geologist has a massive immigration of its experts who did not have the patience to help the country first before dreaming a better life for their family..

hello graxy,
NO, i beg to differ. they have been holding that patriotism for far too long. if they really care about money, they should have left a long time ago. things are getting worse out there, but i don't how worse it has been since the modernization and the creation of a new airport. they're strike and resignations, actually a wake up call because of their family needs. this is really gonna affect tourism..

LetranKnight25,
First of all, Philippine Airlines isn't the only airline that is in trouble but rather more than half of the full cost airline population are in the red and/or under judicial management.
Ever more so, since the emergence of budget airlines flying the routes of full cost airlines. The share of the cake is just getting smaller and as all vicious cycles there will be casualties at the end of the day.
However, I cannot say for some airlines who literally would allow the stirring of a hornet's nest to get into trouble.

No, thank you very much. I do not want to take over PAL
I guess there is really something wrong with the way they run the business. Employees who go on strike are not new to PAL. And now, after the pilots, the flight attendants are now complaining. While the country would really be affected with the company's trouble, I think it's time that they do something about the way they treat their employees.
Have a nice day!

i figured..what the hell Lucio Tan is doing with PAL anyways, i feel bad for the employees most specially our pilots who resign. this is not looking good at all. talk about deterioration, the legal department should do something to investigate this problem. less pilots, vacant planes, canceled and delayed flights can hurt business and trade

Things happen like these to companies who do not care for their employees.
The turd turns to hit the fan so hard that even a firetruck can't clean the turd scattered all over.

Hello Kennz,
I don't know what bad treatment the employees are receiving. but this is too much. i even heard from one of my employers in a man power agency that they suck big time, but choose their services for the sake of the employees.

I have been in the corporate world for a while now and know how people feels.
Most agencies do not really care about the employees. The main goal there is to earn a hefty some of cash at all cost.

The Philippine government has stricken out of its options the possibility of taking over PAL operations sot unless if the condition becomes very worst so the mass resignation of 25 pilots is not worst and now another threatened condition that the Flight Attendants and the Stewards threatened to stage a strike. I guess PAL will do some changes in their management when it comes to their employees.

This is more of the Filipino's ridiculous mentality towards who's the boss.
If a company is treating me bad, I'd resign too.
The executives of PAL should be more careful about the people they put in higher levels.
I also wonder how those people got promoted in the first place. Unless the executives are the ones causing the pilots to resign.

i believe it has something to do with the poor executive plan that the higher management is having. i heard these reports that management doesn't really have those plans that they started to worry about their future..i don't know the whole thing about PAL but most people believe their services sucks.

I think what they are going through today - somehow they would be able to get pass this stage, and manage to survive. After all, there are still a lot of opportunities, and well i heard they are taking actions against the employees who, by the way are still in contract with PAL and decided to abandon their jobs. I think no matter how desperate you are, if you are in a contract - you will have to face that and buy it out! i mean, why would you want a case filed against you for not honoring a contract you greatfully signed a while back?
I have nothing against the pilots and people who are leaving their jobs... but you will have to make sure your a** is covered when you decide, after all these companies are not going to be huge, etc if they did not have the means...
for now, maybe we can just wait and see....
