Okay, I'm an astronomy buff. I love just gazing at the night sky!
But I'm wondering how many of you know the major constellations? I'm familiar with all the constellations of the zodiac, but there are a whole lot more constellations than those in the zodiac.
And there are constellations that folks above the equator will never see - those are the southern constellations. And those living Down Under or some other southerly place like South America will never see some of the northern constellations.
And do you know the difference between a constellation and an asterism? I'll give you a hint: An asterism is a formation of stars that may be part of an official constellation, but does not comprise the whole constellation. For example, the Big Dipper is an asterism that is part of the constellation Ursa Major, which is also known as the Big Bear. And, the little dipper is an asterism in the constellation Ursa minor or the Little Bear.
So, do you know your constellations? Or are you an astronomical dummy? Hey, just kidding! :-) But maybe you know at least a few constellations?

I dare say you are in a lot of good company! Knowing the constellations isn't necessary to like looking a the stars! It does tend to make it even more interesting though. :-)
