I have RA too. I was diagnosed back in April. My hands were very painful for over a year and then my other joints started to bother me. Most of the time I am in a lot of pain, but I have this software now that lets you speak into a microphone and it types for you. I usually use that or I would not be able to type. It's scary knowing how bad it could get, but my doctor said it was caught early and that is key. I am on a ton of medication these days and just as bad as the pain is the fact that i am tired all the time. If I spend a day out the next day I just crash and can't get out of bed. I dread to think how I will cope if I ever want to go on vacation. I think I may never be able to again. Its very hard. I feel like no one really understands what its like.
I hope your RA is under better control and you don't need any other surgeries. I'm in a support group for RA on Yahoo groups. I don't post much but its nice to be able to talk to people who understand what it is like.

I have spastic diaplegia...it is a form of cerebral palsy. One of my legs is also a little shorter than the other, but it has never really slowed me down much. I have a lift put on the sole of my shoe to help compensate for the leg that is shorter than the other. It doesn't completely solve the problem, but is really does help a lot. There are certain things I cannot do, but for the most part, I do what I want, although it may take me a little longer to do whatever it is than it would take a person without the handicap. I don't have a whole lot of pain in my legs, although I do get a little sore and stiff when I work long hours. I work full time in a restaurant, and I even do odd jobs on the side on my own. I also enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, swimming, and bicycling when I have time. Until my bicycle broke down on me, I was biking up to ten miles per day.
I will admit that I get sore sometimes, but my legs aren't really what bothers me most of the time. I have arthritis in my back, and that is what bothers me most of the time, but as long as I take medicine to help control it, I can usually make it through my day...
