Catching a dog?

Okay I do not know what to do. Where I live (apartment complex) there is a girl who every evening (as far as I know it is just in the evenings after the aparment managers have closed up and left) she lets her little chihuahua outside. Now, by let outside I mean she just opens the door and lets it run free for hours and it has not leash and she does not even come outside to watch it. It roams all over the place, even all the way to the back of the complex where my apartment is. It even pees and poops near my porch as I have caught him doing it! There is one path that you walk to to get to the mailboxes and I go every evening (except Sunday usually) and 80% of the time I encounter this small brown and white dog out there. He is a boy and I have female dogs so he is getting them riled up and he keeps trying to run at them and jump on them and I have to pull and drag my dogs away as he is still following. I try to shoo him away but by the time I turn around he is already back. I found out where he lives and I have gone to the apartment 3 times to tell this girl to keep her dog on a leash or to stand outside so she can pick him up when people come by walking their pets. I told her I would call the pound to come pick him up and she just said "do it then!" The last time I went up there she rudely yelled at me "Then walk somewhere else." I have called the apartments 4 times and left messages (because they are always gone when she does this) and they have yet to do anything at all.I do not know what to do. I am tired of being accosted by this dog and having to pull my dogs and hold on to my mail and trying to shoo him away. I can't catch him because he just takes off running. I can't call the Humane Society because I doubt they would come and pick up the dog knowing he belongs to someone and also they are closed when this happens. The police are so slow to get to our complex (even though they are down the street) that the dog is gone already. It runs around barking at people, trying to get on my dogs and I do not know what to do. He wears no collar, he has no tag which means he has no rabies vaccine license, he is not on a leash. Those things are illegal. I do not want to sue her but I want her to keep her dog inside on a leash or watch him so me and my dogs are not being harrassed when I go to get the mail. They enjoy walking with me in the evening as it is one of the longer walks they take during the day since the daytime is so hot in the summer. If you have any advice, or even if you want to come catch this dog and take him home let me know. Thanks!

well you can talk to the owner of that dog if you want to or you can give a bone so that dog will stay and eat that bone.

hi I bet if you go to the apartment complex manager and tell him what you told us, that he or she can and will do something about a loose dog causing problems for other tenants.I am sure there are laws against most of what she allows that dog to do. Nope I cannot take that doggie home as if I have a dog here it would raise my rent one hundred dollars more a month . sorry.wish I could help.

Hi thanks for the advice. Aww that is a bummer for you. That sucks. most apartments here just charge a flat fee or deposit when you first move in.

I would first check the apartment complex's guideline and see what they about dogs. Then I would call the pound and see when they have someone in the area and explain what the situation is and see what they will and won't do. I would talk to other tenants and see if the dog has bothered them in anyway. Get some people on your side. Good luck!

Hi there - it's me, chickabee. I am really sorry you are having this problem. I have had chihuahuas for 50 years, ever since I was a little kid. My whole extended family has these little guys. He is being a big pest to you because his owner doesn't bother to take care of him, much less train him. He simply does not know any better. I feel sorry for you, your dogs and for the little chihuahua making your walks miserable. It really makes me very aggravated at his owner for being so callous. She obviously does not care much for her dog. Since it has done you no good to talk to her, I agree that you should tell the manager and see what they will do. The dog may have had his shots and just not have his tag on. Being left out on his own he could easily be run over or stolen or attacked himself by a larger dog. I can't stand it when people let their animals roam like that. If nothing is done you might ask your friends if they would like to have a chihuahua and tell them when to come over and get them one. You would be doing the little dog a big favor.

Thank you. It is nice to know someone else agrees with me. I too do not want to see him get hit by a car. But hey if he is stolen by someone else I really can't feel sorry for the girl. Thanks.
