Who can you call at 3am?

I've been having migraines left and right for the last couple of weeks. Tonight I got one that was really bad (like usual,) but this time it was blurring my vision. So I called in a migraine pill (my insurance won't pay for them anymore, so I have to pay out of pocket for them and they are $37 a piece, and therefore I do not buy them in advance), but because my vision was blurring, I couldn't drive to pick it up. When I see the doctor next week, I'm going to request he prescribe me a migraine pill that the insurance DOES cover. In the past, the insurance would pay for my current migraine medicine, but a month ago they just stopped.
So it is 3am and I have to get some relief. Who do I call? My dad. And the sweetheart that he is, he tells me it is no problem and that he'll go get it for me. About 30 minutes later he shows up with the pill, and a Coca-cola because he knows it helps the nausea I get when I have a migraine. I didn't even ask him for that.
I know I can call him at 3am and he'll be there. That is, if he actually hears the phone ring. lol He's a sound sleeper. Now there are a couple of people I know who would gladly help me out, but I just don't feel comfortable depending on them. It's good to have someone you know that will help you.
Who can you call at 3am and know they'll be there for you?
*And I am happy to say that after I took the migraine medicine, my migraine has almost faded to nothing - which is rare for it to do so soon after taking the medication. I'm so happy about that!

When the crunch is down, there's no one like good old dad. I'm glad that you have such a wonderful father.
I just wanted to let you know, even though that it doesn't work for everyone. Some when they get a headache they drink a glass of water every half hour and their headache stops. Like I said, it doesn't work for everyone but if you can't get the medication, you have nothing to lose by trying. Wow! Did you say 37 dollars a pill or for a whole box?

Ugh! I get Migraines a few times a month..some last a few days though. It is so good that your dad did that for you. I can't call no one to do that for me at basically any time of the day. First my parents don't have a phone..but if they did they would be the ones who did something for me..Otherwise I don't have anyone else to rely on. We don't own a car and we live to far from town to walk it. I did not know that coca-cola helped with nausea though. I will have to try that. I know I drink a little milk with mine to help coat my stomach. I have taken Maxalt 10 mg in the past but they made me feel ten times worse mostly. I now take one made by tylenol for migraine's but they seldom work good. But the Ibuprofen 800mg work better even if I have to take two most times when I have a migraine. I am glad your migraine started fading fast..ugh! they can be a total debilitating pain..

I was lucky this time. Sometimes they last up to 4 days and I end up in the ER because even the prescription medication doesn't work. I've yet to get an OTC that helped. I tried Maxalt once, but it didn't work. Imitrex works great for me, but the insurance wouldn't pay for it. So I switched to Amerge, which is now what the insurance won't pay for either.
Someone told me they now have a generic Imitrex. I'm hoping I can get my doctor to prescribe that. Surely the insurance would okay that. Hopefully. But I totally get you with the side efffects. They get rid of the pain, but sometimes the side effects keep you sidelined.

Nothing that I have ever bought over the counter has worked for my migraines. I've had them since I was eight, and over the years they have gotten worse. Sometimes not even the prescription medication works, and I have to go to the hospital.
One would think something more might be going on medically, but I've had many tests, MRIs, and cat scans, but nothing that would cause migraines has been found.

You and your dad's migraine pill story is just the right concoction of loving for me. I wish family relations are as warm and as cozy as yours. Yes, I could call any of my family at 3 am. But we could only talk. They are 16 hour plane rides away. Ambie, you affirmed my belief in families. Here's wishing your migraine will be gone for good.

I can call a few people if I am in need, no matter what time it is, and these people are the only people I can count on. My husband which is still at work right now @3:30am, my bff, and my father in law. They are all great people and would do pretty much anything I asked.
You're lucky to have your dad, be there for you, and that was so nice of him to get you a coke. Very sweet.

My husband would be whom I would contact first. If it was an emergency then my daughter would be next. If for some reason I would have to call my sister. Her hubby might not be that happy with the idea but in an emergency I think that it would work out.My father would be as wonderful but unfortunately he lives several states away. I think it is awesome that we all can at least be blessed with one person who we can call at anytime.

I do have migraine and it's really very bad.... I always have this in my monthly period and it's really terrible!!! I can't really move my head left or right because there's a blurring of vision. So my head movement should be slow in motion. They said I have to see a doctor but I just take medicine for my migraine.

Yes, at one point they thought my migraines might be related to my menstrual cycle. It wasn't. They also said that many women who have migraines around that time of the month, usually have a lot less after the give birth to their first child. I guess you get rid of one headache, but then get a different kind!

I could call my parents but I would just try to leave it myself, if I felt unwell I would hope to sleep it off. I wouldn't really like to bother anyone and if it was serious I would call 999 for help.
I used to suffer from migraines myself AmbiePam, I really hate them as my vision goes pretty much blank and I see little grainy like stars which make it even more to focus. When I was at school, my teachers didn't believe me that I suffered from them so badly, I had tastes and nothing could be found and I used to have to go to school and was pretty much forced to try and do my school work as I would kept behind. They seemed to get the message when I had to stay behind for almost 3 weeks, my mum who did believe me was steaming when she found out this was the reason why I was coming home let.
Hopefully you feel better now, do you suffer from them often? :)

Well my husband would do that for me or for anyone he loves but luckily he is right in my own home so I wouldn't have to call him. I also think that it would be my dad who would go and do that in the middle of the night for me and not be a bit annoyed by it, that is just how my dad is. He lives a good hour away from me now though so I would not call him and he is getting older so I would not want him driving that late at night. My husband's best friend would probably do it but I would feel bad about calling him. Your dad sounds like a very nice man.

I guess it would be my wife, she works nights right now so she would be the one. I'm glad that you have somebody to call when stuff like that happens. Its nice to have a person that you can count on to take care of you.

Girl, I am so glad you got some relief!! Thanks to your wonderful dad! My dad was always there for me to. I could call at any time and he would be over. I especially remember my first sinus surgery at age 13 I got so scared in the middle of the night there alone at the hospital and I called him and he drove right over and sat with me! Parents are the best. You can always count on them. I really miss my dad so much. Im glad you are better!

Father or mother love their children very much. They will sacrifice for their children.
They are even prepared to die for their children so that their children can live on. So what is a call at 3:00 am?

Hi Amber~ I'm sorry that you had such a bad migrane and I do
know exactly what you mean because I used to get them very often
when I was working and would get very stressed out. The pain,
the nausea and the blurred vision were incredible and nothing
would take it away except trying to sleep! I used to take
Excederin PM's back then because I never really discussed it
with my doctor at the time and it went on for years! I have
been taking Topamax (Topirimate-(Generic)which was given to
me as a anti-depressant but is actually for epilepsy and migranes.
My gf's daughter use to get severe migranes and it worked for
her and I haven't had one either since I started taking them
and it's been 3 years now! And it wasn't even given to me for
migranes! I think I had told you about it before. I really used
to have the most excrutiatingly painful migranes probably much
like you are describing where even a tiny sound or light would
feel intensified and I just wanted to die!

Gotta love your dad! I’m glad you got some relief, migraines are awful things! My husband is one I can depend on at all hours but I wouldn’t have to call him because he lives here! The only other person I can think of is my best friend; she would come to my aid at any time. My sister would too but she doesn’t drive so unless she ‘cabbed’ it she would be of little help and my parents would probably find some excuse not to bother so I would say my dear friend would be the one I would call first! Oh, the Coke was a very thoughtful touch, bless him!

Your dad is awesome, but in answer to your question I could call anyone I know but that doesn't mean that they would do what your dad did, I think the only person who would do that would be my boyfriend, everyone else I called would be just so that I could annoy them because I was awake at that time, lol, But seriously my boyfriend would be the one I would rely on. I glad your migraine is getting better, I get them too.
