the question really is, either what is the disadvantage / advantage or what makes it hard or easy to be a Filipino... I asked this question because i have already said my part about it. most of the time (sorry) i had to say negative things about being a filipino, most specially in terms of discipline and responsibility. but i won't say no more of this. I WANT TO HEAR YOURS. something would make me realize that Filipinos are really different from the rest....or at least differ.

I am proud to be a Filipino. And although we have some disadvantages i guess It's just fine, All people and nationalities have their own negativity, But 3 of the worst things about some or most Filipinos, Was the laziness, greediness and the crab mentality. I so hate it when some people always tries to put successful filipinos down, Instead of being proud and maybe just simply admire or follow those successful people. You will hear negative things.. Ok enough said, What I love about being a Filipino is the strong family relationship. Always helping and loving their family. Always happy even through hardships. And very warm people, so easy to get along with. ANd of course very talented people in their own special way.

hello ivy, i believe the reason why we came to that disadvantages is due to lack of understanding of every one else's views that are contrary to our own, we refused to be open minded in other things that it normally leads to fight.. yes, there's a lot of talented Filipinos but i noticed it only through showbiz that these people are easily connected to and publicized.

It is easy for a Filipino to find a job I think since we can easily adapt to different situations and cultures. I think it is also worth talking about what makes you proud to be a Filipino. I guess everyone will have definitely a lot to say about it. What do you think?

I don't really see any disadvantage. You can't really tag all Filipino with one type of mentality, it's just not fair, not all think alike. Crab mentality for one is not inherent of all Filipinos, I refuse to believe that and there's no scientific fact that proves that. What I see is the advantage - living in a place abundant of resources.

Hello dax, Whether you liked or not, we do have some disadvantages. for example, North Korea was a crap during the 1950's and now they're one of the most known popular countries in Asia Besides Hongkong, Japan or Malaysia.we lacked unity some how and able to forget the past. not to mention we have too many languages that kept us from fully understanding each other that has led to local racisms among other pinoy tribes. being a third world country we do have some advantages. that means we were able to retain some of our important cultures, most specially when it comes to respecting the elders or still a bit hospitality among our people compare to other nations. but i still hope that we advance someday. as for abundant resources, how long are we going to have it despite the fact we don't have the technology to conserve it. our OIL and Gas aren own by big oil companies that sells it to us.

Well, many highlights and disappointing things about being a Filipino. Good ones: Accommodating Polite Passionate about helping family Manage to smile inspite of what they're going through Faith is intact though we have many religions here Learns a buffet of many dialects - my friends knows how to speak ilonggo, pampanga language and visayan language Talented Bad ones: Laziness MaƱana habit Lives in gossip (though it can be avoidided but as you can see - they're mixing politics with showbusiness - LOL) Settles for one change at a time Low self-esteem (previous post pointed this one out and I agree with him) Tends to be really personal when it comes to many things - again, showbiz and politics. Not really frank Praises the foreign more than our own

Hello there, Yes, accomodating but i noticed that most filipinos accomodate foreigners other than their own. Filipinos tend to smile and even tend to make jokes about certain issues in our politics of the country. Unfortunately i don't speak Visaya, i can't even speak my native Pangalatong language. i noticed this during election, the Media had certainly publicized too much of Noynoy aquino and only three other candidates. i won't say no more, it brings back bad political election days. people have less sense of reason and more on emotion.

hello bro, Inspite all the negative comments about us Filipinos i am still proud being one. Every human differ from each other and so with the nation/country and kingdom. We can never find all good traits and every goodness being possessed by one person, and it is same with each country. Even the most modern and advanced country is not perfect, what would we expect from a small and a developing/corrupt country. I don't want to enumerate what is bad and what is good being a Filipino coz i don't feel to compete with the other races. As long as being an individual person i am doing my obligation being a law abiding citizen and as long as i don't indulge myself for doing bad things,i can always be a proud Filipino myself. Have a good day always dear brother

Advantages of being a Filipino 1. We can easily adopt something from many other people. 2. We are also talented and yet most of us are willing to work hard in able to become successful. 3. We are hospitable enough by accepting other people sincerely. 4. We are proud of natural resources. 5. Valuing the Filipino tradition like going mass every Sunday, having novena especially during holy week. Disadvantages of being a Filipino 1. crab mentality to each other 2. relying on the government 3. gossipers 4. stubborn 5. as you said lack of discipline and sense of responsibility 6. giving fuss on small things 7. low self esteem 8. some are not proud of what they are.

Hello Metatronik, regarding our natural resources, i wonder how many more we have left? in my area here, this place used to filled with farms. Now, ever area that i see is constructed into a subdivisions, and more more people coming in. not every one goes to mass (am one of them, sometimes). i believe the poor is relying most in the government because most of them lack education and money, or work experience. but this work for rice program can change that mentality, i hope. gossipers, that's why out side mylot we never tell secrets.

i believe all race has advantages and disadvantages. but being a filipino is still the best, look at other countries now who are supposed to be rich are now suffering from financial crisis and they are all in trouble. while us this has been our trouble every single day.i believe we can rise up.

Ey, Knight ( can I call you this from now on?):-) I don't want to further add injuries to our already injured pride and race.I'd rather think of what's good about being a Filipino, though there are undeniable sad facts but let's forgone that for the moment... Just recently Iraqui (Iran?) government was asking our government to lift the ban for filipinos to work in their land. THey said that Filipinos are hardworking, efficient and patient. That's a plus for our workers. Rob Sneider, who has a Filipino Mom claims that his mother is the best Mom because she is really loving and nurturing. That goes for our mothers. Foreign nationals think that Filipinas are beautiful with our exotic look. We are hospitable and one of the most polite people in the world. We are also known for our courage to survive no matter how many typhoons, flood eartquakes hit the country, we will always find a away to recover. Think of Manny Pacquiao, Margie Moran,Cristeta Comerford, Cory Aquino,Erik Spoelstra, and the list goes on.These people are trying so hard to give ALL Filipinos a good name, globally speaking. We've come a long way, from just a mere domestic helper to becoming world class that almost all nations look up to.:-)

Hmmmmmm.... Thank you for this topic LetranKnight! It made me really think about the remarks I always hear from other nations when it comes to Filipinos. I am proud of being a Filipino. And that could not be changed. the usual bad remarks i often hear from other people from different countries are like this: they always say that Filipinas always asks for money! but i tell them if i chat with them i will not ask money from you so if you generally don't like any Filipina then tell me right away so I would not waste both of our times. Some says that they dont want to speak to a Filipina because all they answer in chat is only a yes or a no ... or how are you. generally speaking these are just some factors why other nations doesn't like Filipinos but then all i can say is that we are very hardworking and industrious. We are also loving people and we love to support out loved ones if they are working from other countries. there are lots of things to consider or to know if we are going to be proud of being a Filipino. Just think of this, we should always be grateful in any ways that we have been the best that we can be because we have been brought up here in our country. we also consumed the natural resources and food that we ate here in our country. So there is no reason for us to tell that we are not proud being a Filipino.

Hello fyzeon, those remarks coming from the foreigners don't do much dept research, don't they? what they see in the internet doesn't entirely represent the entire nation.but that's their problem, not ours. although it's bad because our innocent OFW's are being treated badly and also being misinterpreted due to this. I am happy still that i became a filipino compare to being some one else.

I think the disadvantage of being a Filipino is that there are not so many high tech medical care here in the country. People sometimes go abroad to be tended to a hospital. What about those people who have little? Needless to say they are sometimes treated badly by private hospitals. The advantage of being a Filipino - and I am so happy about this - is that in our country, it is normal to stick with your family. Family is very important to us. We often have a very close knit family because our social norms is such. We take care of the parents, the lolas and lolos. And that I think sets us apart.

There are just a few things which I really don't like in being a Filipino. When I go outside the country to go on vacation, there is this perception of some cab drivers that we are a clan of Domestic Helpers and they would always drop me in the place where there are many Filipinos working instead of a place where I really want to go and another thing which I cannot help but notice is if they see that you have a Filipino passport, they would keep on double checking it as if you cannot be trusted. Good thing I have another passport which is European because I was born and partly raised there but when it comes to my father who hasn't lost his Philippine citizenship its a disaster traveling with him.
