Choosing Bandmates

AcidRadio's been around for 16 years now and throughout its existence there've been a lot of revolving doors.
I guess I'm the only one left who hasn't been fired although i did change instruments a couple of times. I started out as the band's bassist, and then shifted to just vocals, and then just lead guitars (when i felt confident enough) and finally just took up vocals and guitars cause no other vocalist could stand my pranks hehehe
I've surrounded myself with talented people to make the band better
first there's Kym who used to be the top dog in our small hometown when it came to skills on the drumset. He's a terrific drummer and can make a single bass kit sound like a double bass (probably easy to do for other drummers, but then i wouldn't know). He's a really old friend and we both came to Manila on a whim and a dream to make it big
next there's Dave, my sister's ex boyfriend and the one who replaced my best friend on bass. He was already a "rockstar" while Kym, Paul and I were still trying to get our act together in our first band. Dave's band was winning awards left and right and then he just stopped to come over to Manila and work. that was in 97. 13 years later I finally persuaded him to play again and he's been a great addition to the band ever since. although i do miss dominic's playing ability... dave's solid lines support my guitar playing and kym's drumming perfectly. we're like a machine.
and last there's Jean Paul (or Impol), he's always been the top sessionist for almost every band in Tacloban and i think others would be envious to find out he's already playing in AcidRadio. back in the day when Jean Paul, Kym and I were bandmates in Feedback and Blacksun, you would not be able to put us in a room together. there'd always be an argument and a fight from the friction we always seemed to have. nowadays, we're like a well oiled machine, some friction but no damages incurred.
We've been called a super band because of the current lineup, but we're still working on perfecting our gigs
we do have videos at http://www.acidradioband.com
now i chose this guys because i'm very comfortable playing with them. it doesn't matter if jean paul can play circles around me and make me look like an amateur or that dave used to be my sister's boyfriend or that kym can actually play drums and i can't, what matters most is that at the end of the day we're all friends. We've had our ups and downs but it can only get better from here.
how do you choose your bandmates? do you put talent over friendship? looks over musicianship? or just by accident?
mine was purely luck

well i gotta say that i would go for the talent first... looks could be a plus factor these days so i wont hire you guys. oh dang... there's this minor problem i forgot to mention here... i don't know how to play any instrument and my voice... well, think of it as a Jim Morrison with a touch of Pee-wee Herman, it's not pretty.
basically, i just don't care but good luck to you guys! hehehe!

16 years? wow! ...so how old are you?
when it comes to choosing bandmates I guess you should make sure that you sound good together. because there are some talented people whose talents don't mix.
but if i were to put up a band, i'd choose friendship before talent. most talented people have humongous attitude that stops a band from being successful. I hate primadonas, and when somebody knows that he/she has talent, sometimes he feels that he/she is more impoertant than the other bandmates.
