How do you organize your photos?

Some time ago my grandmother died and when we went through the things from her house we found a lot of old photos. My parents recognized some of the relatives and friends on the photos, but there were several old photos that they had never seen before, and we none of us recognize the people on photos. We are a bit sad that my grandmother hasn't written the names on any of them, because some of photos are very old and it could be interesting to know who those relatives are. When my great-grandfather died we also found a lot of very old photos without names. That made me think about my own photos. I have divided them in groups: Family photos, travel photos etc. I haven't written on the photos or written in the albums, but I think it would a good idea to get it done. How do you organize your photos? Do you write on the back on the photos? Do you keep them in albums? Do you have any old photos from your family?

I do have some photos in my drawer, I just keep those photos inside envelops and it's kind of disordered. I bought a photo album last year but haven't taken any step to organize those photos yet. I guess you just remind me what I going to do next.Recently I seldom print out photos unless I really need them to print out. For me it is more convenient to organize all the photos in computer laptop where I can easily move the photos to the folder I want. We should start to save the environment now, we are moving toward paperless era...lol

As for me, I will think that pendrive is more easily expose to viruses higher and we might easily lose it. Unless you just use your pendrive to keep data rather then transfer data. I like your suggestion about making the slide show with the photos, I saw my friends did that and it's great. I wish that I can do that also, need to learn some technical skill to make the slide or video perfect! Anyway thanks for your comment.

hi... i have some experiences to share. each of the photo i took would be saved into my pen drive rather than keep inside my laptop avoid unnecessary thing happen like virus attacked or major damaged on motherboard which may caused all the data inside gone like that. Nevertheless, i've did slide show and short video to present my photos album.. This kind of method really can attract my friends to focus on my each of the photo and the real spirit/feeling on the photos. Yes, we must preserve and conserve our environment. "Green World"... Please take an action rather then talk lol. i support you...

We have a lot of photo albums and they are a bit organized. I have labeled most of my pictures in the albums and it looks pretty good (except for my bad handwriting). But its not like writing all the names but just the places and the occasions. The albums that we are using are the ones that allows us to put labels on it so I don't have to write it at the back of the photos. Its really good to check them out once in a while. Its very fulfilling seeing all the places that you've been to. But now, only few pictures are being printed out since its pretty much expensive already. I'm storing majority of my pictures in my computer, then with a back cd and usb.

I also think that it is very nice to see all the places where I have been. I love travelling and I love visiting many different kinds of places. I usually take a lot of pictures when I visit a new place, and I divide my albums into different groups according to countries, cities etc. Yes, unfortuneately it is expensive to print the pictures and some of them I keep on cd instead of printing them out.

I have so many photos and kept them in number of albums. There are more photos. But it is not possible to keep them in albums. Because in my shelf there is no room to keep any single album. But it is better to keep record of the photos.

I used to only keep my photos in photo albums. Then scrapbooking came along. i find that I organize most of my photos now now by scrapbooks. I like to have different themes for each book that i do. it is a fun way to organize the many photos that I collect over the years.

It is a good idea to make scrapbooks In the past I often made scrapbooks when I returned from a trip. I enjoyed making them and it was also a good way to keep the photos. I haven't made new scrapbooks for a while, I have thought about it, because I have busy with other things. When I return from my next trip (one month in Europe) I plan on making a scrapbook again.

Way back 10 years ago, i organized them on photo albums that up to now I'm still keeping in the cabinet. It is organized from different occasions, years taken and places. But now it's much safe and easy to organize it by uploading it to my social sites like friendster, facebook or yuwie. I don't print them anymore. I also put some in different galleries on dvds.

I used to put them in those magnetic albums. Now I have way too many, but I am looking into safer ways to store them so that they don't get messed up over time. Photo corners are good so putting them in a scrapbook type album would allow you to view them and the paper in those books is acid free so they wouldn't get damaged over time.

Nowadays, it's possible to create some kind of photo (or picture) book from your photographs. Of course, they are most applicable to digital photos. However, scanning the printed photographs into digital files should remove this distinction between the two. Anyway, I've seen one such photo book of my classmate from college. It contained their family photos during a trip to the U.S. They were arranged much more beautifully compared to traditional photo albums.
