I was so pleased to receive an e mail today from my local food bank.
Pampered Chef and Feeding America are teaming up again to help fight hunger. Their goal is to donate 10 million pounds of food.
"Download your FREE celebrity cookbook and Pampered Chef will donate one meal to Feeding America®.*
Since 1991, our customers and Consultants have raised more than $16 million for Feeding America® through our Round-Up from the Heart® campaign. This year, our goal is to donate 10 million pounds of food. By downloading this exclusive cookbook, you play a big part in reaching that goal.
The collection features the personal and family favorites of the hottest celebrities and members of the Feeding America Entertainment Council — Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Mario Batali and more!"
If you'd like a copy of this cook book you can download it at http://www.pamperedchef.com/our_company/celeb_cookbook_thankyou.jsp
This is not an affiliate link. I don't make anything from passing this along. For years I've tried to help out in my community by donating to the food bank etc., but now I'm doing good to keep from asking them for help, so this was a good way for me to continue to help out.
Do you donate to local charities? Do you cook? Couldn't you use a free cookbook?

Sorry about that. I was surfing through their web site and got the wrong URL. Here's the right one

I donate to my local food bank whenever I can as I have seen the difference it can make to peoples lives. Last year I was also a volunteer for them which was a wonderfully life enhancing experience.
The other charity I support is Help for Heroes which was set up to support British troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I'm glad to hear my Mylot friends are aware of these needs and do what they can to help. Congrats on the volunteer work. I haven't done that yet as I can only drive on good days (good being weather and my frame of mind).

You're lucky to have public transportation available to you. I live in a rural area, no public transit.

While I do not mind giving and even voluntering my time to this cause, I strongly believe that the best way to fight hunger, poverty and illnessses is to empower via education and equip people with skills to thrive for themselves: I do not advocate dependency.

Thebeaddoodler, who mentioned "punished" the poor or the hungry? I am simply stating that matters for the poor or hungry or sick would be better served if they were empowered with knowledge and skills to thrive for themselves.

I couldn't agree with you more, but I have seen first hand the desperation that can arise from layoffs, lack of local jobs, illness that prevent the primary wage earner from working etc. While there will always be plenty of people who will work the system, there are those in genuine need who would work if they could. Those people should not be "punished" because of the ones who work the system.
