Hi all, this morning I walked my dogs like I always do and my older dog kept trying to urinate and only dribbled. I called the vet and made an apt. and she I went for her apt. at 4 today and the vet checked her over very thoroughly and said he could find nothing wrong but I should try to catch a specimen of urine and bring it to the clinic in the morning. So, I came home and right off the bat she went to urinate...........I was able to catch some urine and put it in the fridge but now I'm wondering why she kept trying to go and couldn't. Anybody have any suggestions for me?

It could be a number of things especially when it comes to old age' however, Im thinking it could be a bladder infection or something far worse like bladder cancer. I hope not but with old age, it wouldn't surprise me. All you can do is be sure she has fresh water to drink til you're able to get her back to the vet again.

HI Cats ! My dog is only about 8 yrs old and actually the vet gave a clean bill of health since her bladder wasn't distended. She wouldn't P** for them and I wouldn't leave her there so I brought her home and she did go to her place to P** and I had an empty Sonic cup and pulled up her tail and caught a specimen......... I'll take it in the morning and we will see what is wrong. I do hope she doesn't have cancer or even kidney stones or a just an infection. She's been my sweetie for over 8 years and if she goes, you'll have to bury me with her ! She drinks lots of water and I keep ice trays filled for them (I have two dogs and two cats) to have cold water since it's been so hot. I am hoping the incident today was just an attempt to keep up with my new dog, Annie. but I will get that specimen in as soon as the vet's office opens in the morning. Thanks girl. hugs,

Take that dog to the vet. Could be kidney stones or a UTI (Yes, it is somehow possible for animals to get UTIs, don't know how, but it has happened).

I have taken the dog to the vet. NO UTIs or blockages but I had to get specimens and took the P** specimens in this morning. But turns out she has tape worms and the vet gave me pills for all worms and also enough for my other dog. So, all is well here ! thanks for careing

I wonder if she is maybe dehydrated? If the other dog is keeping her from the water dish she could be.

No, not dehydrated at all. They both drink like fiends ...I keep ice water out for both dogs and keep the bowls clean. As it turns out the urinating was not a problem. Galeena has tape worms and was dragging her bottom......so I did take the urine specimens in to the vet this morning and also got worming pills for both dogs. 90.00 bucks worth ! Just like I told Hately, it is US , the old women who are in bad shape !!

maybe your really can't urinate because he haven't drink enough liquids. You need to give him water our let him eat the right food that he is needing for him to urinate properly..

No, my dogs are taken very well care of. they have an ample water and food supply. I put ice cubes in their water several times a day in this heat. I also put out fresh , clean water in five bowls outside twice a day as well in my bird baths for the birds who drink here. The eat too much ! they are fat ! But they also ended up having tape worms. I have given them the pills so all should be ok now. Keep those fingers crossed tho. hugs, quita

Just to be sure, got get your dog checked up. It might be something serious. Dog's can't tell us what they are actually feeling, if they are hurting or not. The best we could do as masters is to be keen to their actions and tend to them every way possible. Especially if your dog is aging/old, they start to have complications, maybe just like what your dog is having. Bring her/him to the Vet just to make sure.

took her to the vet yesterday and they let me bring her home and get urine samples and I got two. I took those specimens in this morning and all is ok but turns out the dog has tape worms. I picked up pills for these worms and also enough for my other dog. Seems as tho she was dragging her bottom and I wasn't paying any attention. but we are all ok here now and thanks for your concern.

hi quita I hope its just a uti as I had one myself not too long ago a nd had to do it so often but just tiny dribbles. it mimicked a low blood sugar attack with my cold sweat and my tongue partley numb so as the nurse here was scared of a stroke they sent me to the er and they found thank Goodness no stroke just a plain old urinary tract infection but a severe one so they put me on some really strong antibiotic that made me deathly sick to my stomach for an hour after each dose but it sure did cure the bladder infection. So I hope maybe its just a bladder infection for your dog not kidney stones as they tell me those are so painful and for a dog too as they would not understand why they are hurting. poor dogs.

OmG ! you sure had your share of troubles ! Gosh, I'd have been afraid of a stroke too if I'd been in your shoes. Those pills were probably a sulpher type of pill and they will make you sick. But, the dogs p** came out clear but she has tape worms..........and I have Galeena and Annie tape worm pills. My stars! those 2 1/2 pills cost me $90.00 !!! But, it's ok, we have the healthy word to move on with life. The dogs are fine. It's you and me who are in deep doo dooo
