Are you in control?

I know one lady who has high sugar level and is pregnant, yet she still takes food that are too sweet and too oily. I feel really worried for her and her baby.
Sometimes we know some foods are just unhealthy, but we couldn't resist the temptation and just go ahead and have it. Are you able to resist the temptation or can you pull yourself back and consciously keep away from unhealthy food? I'm not talking about the occasional snacks, this is more like food for our regular meals.

I think it is a matter whether you want to or not to consume food of this nature. Again, it is one's own dietary requirements such as whether one is kosher, vegetarian and the like.
Preferably to have a balance although generally I am averse to food that is too sweet, saltish or oily.

At first I thought everybody would have self-control to a certain extent, but then I realized not everyone is so. I cannot imagine anyone in knowing that a certain type of food is detrimental to health, still takes it.

I think moderation is the word.
If I have french fries or soft drinks like once in a few months, I think it's ok, but if I have that every week, I would think it's very detrimental.

That belongs to the group you identified as "I realised not everyone is so...".
Would you consider yourself having self-control. Is french fries "detrimental to health" (or only eaten in bulk).

I am very strict to what i eat, sweetie.
Sugar is not for me, so i know to stay away from it.
Hope that women can find a healthier replacement for that sugar she consume.
It will harm her if she keeps that up.
A lot of people have trouble controlling their cravings, but they know there are healthier replacements for it.
TATA.

There are things like diet cokes and other sugar replacements but I'm not very sure how healthy these really are. I'm worried about the chemical components inside all these replacements, thought that natural foods are much better, because even though they might not be so healthy, there are surely lesser side effects.

Well, 10% means you are still in control 90%, that's very good. I guess all of us have these moments of losing control and indulging, it's how we keep a balance that is important.

Hi, bluemoon, it's really hard to keep myself away from unhealth food! I love everything delicious! Such as french fries, chips, hot pot, Sichuan dishes...Many reports say they're harm for health, but I couldn't stop missing them.
But now, it's much better. When I buy chips, I choose smallest packs, and put them in pantry - far away from my view. In addition, I fix a cost limit on these food.

Hi OrangJuice,
The foods you mentioned are such temptations, I can see why it's so hard to resist them.
Maybe if you adopt the idea of "out of sight, out of mind", you may find it easier to forget them

It is really hard to resist the temptation especially if you are used to it. In my case I also need to control on what to eat but then I can't still avoid in the sense that it is the one available or else if you are going to find the food that is really healthy it will be expensive at times and yet not worth to price.

I know what you mean. Like we know organic food is healthier, but it cost so much more than the normal ones and we wonder whether is it really worth to pay that much for something which can only lasts us maybe one or two meals.

Rice is pretty much my staple too. Our body do need a certain amount of carbohydrates to give us energy. I have known some people who cannot do without rice, they must have it for every meal, except breakfast. When people try to slim down, carbohydrates is the first to be reduced, so I guess some level of control is needed towards rice.

Hi fiazio,
It's true, sometimes we just need to satisfy that urge somehow and then try to compensate for it another time. It's good to hear you have some sort of control.

When I was in college, I was really out of control. I would eat anything I find delicious, even if I know it's unhealthy. Now I am starting to control myself. I make sure I have vegetables in our meals and fruits. Also, I used to have softdrinks every meal, not now. I drink 2 glasses of water every meal. hehe. be blessed!

Hi attente,
It's great to hear about your diet change. I think I'm quite conscious about my health and I will be quite concerned if I see someone eats unhealthily every meal.
For me, soft drinks are usually avoided because of the high sugar content, I also am wary about the salt and sodium intake. It's good to have more vegetables and fruits in our diet.

It's really difficult, but my self-control does win most of the time
I have cut down my rice to half a cup and I do try to eat a lot of vegetables. During those times when I am craving for something not so healthy like fries, I sometimes indulge but make sure I share so that I do not have to eat everything.
Have a nice day!

Hi Rainegurl,
Good for you to say that. Guess you have a strong willpower there. Keep it up!
That is also a good strategy, share the food, share the calories hehe.

It's not easy to control have the favorite food, for me I realized I can't eat peppery food, but I can't often resist the temptation to have it. Sometimes, we really know if we often eat the food will effect our health, however we can't stop to have it.

Mostly I am able to to stay in control of my diet-as a family we try to eat very healthy. However when I am back in Germany and stay with my parents there nd being surrounded by cakes, biscuits and so on- I hardly can resist.
So when I am back home, I dont buy those temptations in order to keep my weight under control.I will eat veg and fruits and not even remembering chocolated ( well, occasionaly)

Hi asja,
You may want to watch your parents' diet too since there's such a lot of temptations at their house. Also they could be more susceptible to cholesterol and high blood pressure diseases.
I am also always tempted by chocolates if I have them on hand, so I try not to buy it.

It is not an easy thing to control what you eat, but I do try more these days. I used to eat so many sweet things, and then put on bundles of weight to prove it. Now I am in more control of what I eat, and when I eat, and it has made a huge difference. I have not stopped eating bad unhealthy foods, but I do not eat them as much as I used to. I am still a chocoholic, but these days only in moderation lol!

Hi rosie,
I see you making an effort to control your diet, and that's good. Being overweight brings with it many troubles and it would be good to be more healthy. I guess we need the sugar perks from tiem to time to pamper ourselves.

Hi, bluemoonpavilion!
In fact I don't care this very much. I personally think people are live for happiness, not for long life. So I never restrain my desire for eating something, though it might be considered not so healthy. And I don't think it's good to obey all nutritional theories.
If eating is also normalized, what happiness will be still in life?

Hi qianyun,
What a strong viewpoint. I agree that we should enjoy life to the fullest but then I'm worried that if I don't take care of myself when I'm young, my body would deteriorate fast when I get older. I don't want to be lying in bed when I'm old. I don't mind having a short and healthy life as compared to a long but miserable life towards the end.

I am absolutely in control.I know when not and when to indulge myself in food.It is highly imperative to control our gravens because if we are not careful we are exposing ourselves into a dangerous zone, sicknesses;frustrations;moodiness and will end up giving up to this magnificent thing called life.It is a precious gift from our God so lets look after it.We have to be responsible and this applies to everything in life and i mean everything. There are lots of temptations out there. So be in Control of your Life.Judge yourself. You will be fulfilled once you achieve this well focused and determined lifestyle.
