How do you add plug ins to Wordpress?

I am kind of new at using Wordpress, and I am trying to find something out that I can't find info about anywhere. I know there are tons of plug ins for Wordpress, and that if you add them to Wordpress you can do all sorts of things with them. But how do I actually add them there? Can someone provide an easy step-by-step guide or something?
