what laptop do you think is the best and why

Babz is correct. If you are going to college see which one they suggest for their network. Macbooks are really good but come with a hefty price tag. Don't, whatever you do, get a DELL. They are just horrible plus they have the worst customer service. You end up calling somewhere in india, because they outsource, and you can hardly understand the technical support. Good luck!

I'm using Sony VAIO and I strongly advice you to get one, any series. It's durable, high end specs and easy to navigate. It also depends on your use, what do you intend to use it for? Like Video, Games, or just plain own consumption. The MacBooks are also good laptops. If your low on budget, there are Japanese brands that might be useful, like Toshiba. But for me, Sony VAIO are very good notebooks.
