As many of u know my aunt told me years ago i had a brown thumb instead of a green one because everything i tried to raise died. . I decided i would plant me 2 tomato plants & 2 pepper plants. I have these two beautiful tomato plants that have grown at least 3 ft. tall, so healthy looking & not a darn tomato on them, lol. As for the pepper plants they haven't grown tall at all but miracles do happen i have 2 peppers on them. Is your thumb green or brown like mine.

I have a great green thumb when it comes to weeds. Your tomato plants will set fruit when the very hot, over 90 weather is past. Peppers like it hot. You did really well. I have a huge WHITE pumpkin, no surprise, as I planted seeds I saved a few years ago from a white pumpkin. I also have lots of butternut squash. I will really enjoy the fall harvest. these pumpkin and squash vines are taking over my entire garden and yard.

HI GG, Thanks for your response. Glad u think i will have tomatoes, hope u are right. i'll try to keep the faith. My neighbor keeps on commenting on how big the tomato plants are. Her & her granson put me up a stahe to tie the biggest to .It was so heavy the stakes i had put up were not doing any good. I had give my mop a haircut & was using that but the plant outgrew my mop, lol.

Okay, that tells me that there is a lot of nitrogen in the soil. If you were to get a plant food that had a higher middle number, it might help. I have also been told to give epsom salts to tomatoes when I plant them, and other people have told me to bury banana peels with the plants or at their roots. I just think you have a fairly long growing season. Tomatoes do not set fruit when the temps are 90 and above is what I have been told.

Lol!!! Good luck. Mine is brown too. Ive tried before. Once i actually rented a house and grew some really nice tomato plants. There were so many tomatoes that time. I always wished i could grow a garden. So far havent really had any place to grow. Since that once mentioned above. Couple years ago i tried growing in containers. That was a joke.
MY sister is completely opposite of me. I always tell everyone she can throw a handful of seeds on cement and grow a garden.

Isn't it funny how small things people close to us say, get lodged in our memory for life? So 20 years later, we do the thing person x said something about, just to prove them wrong.
Not to change the subject, but I do find that a fascinating aspect of humanity. We gotta prove that guy in the 3rd grade who said we couldn't do X, wrong.

Congratulations on the peppers. Now our tomatoes we had a over abundance of them. We had so many we were giving them to whoever would take them getting up to 20-30 tomatoes out of the garden a day for a few weeks. We planted a lot of tomatoes. But our cabbage didn't do well at all poor things, we didn't even get one.. So far our peppers don't have anything on them just blooms but I am hoping to be able to get some peppers off them in a few weeks. Crosses fingers.

I have some yellow flowers in the front yard that are well over 6 feet tall... they're only supposed to get about 3 feet tall... and it's not like I give them any special attention. I don't even water them!

I think I have a brown thumb. Same thing happens with what I plant. They all die. But never loose hope. Maybe, just maybe, your tomato will surprise you one day. And your pepper will grow taller. Just believe in them. They will blossom to what you expect them to be. Soon. ^_^

I like growing things but I think that I am middle of the road - some things turn out well but not others. I don't know what you can do to make the tomatoplants bloom and grow tomatoesI am glad about the peppers though. I do better with flowers and do have some lovely orchids blooming right now. did you fertilize your plants? Keep us informed with the tomato plants. We are having a public holiday tomorrow so am taking the day off from work. Am tired of working on public holidays I want a nothing day where I can read and maybe watch a movie and my kitchen needs organizing badly. Not sure that I will sort out the kitchen

Hi Cynthi, thanks for responding. I bet your orchids are just beautiful. I can't imagine having something that pretty growing in your yard. My tomatoes have blooms on them. If i get one tomato off them u will probably hearme at your house i'll be so excited, lol. I'm sooooo glad u are going to have a holiday. U certainly deserve one. Enjoy every minute of it & think about yourself for a change instead of everybody else. That's an order, lol.

Sounds to me like your thumb has changed..lol...I think I have a brown thumb. My plants grow better when I leave them alone. I can grow a big ole cactus..lol..but the tender attention needing plants are as good as goners when I bring them in.

When I lived in New York I had a green thumb. I had tomato plants, green and red peppers, squash, strawberries and raspberries. I also had flowers and roses that I was able to grow. Here in New Mexico I have a brown thumb. Can't even grow a rose bush. When I move to Puerto Rico at the end of the month I already have a backyard full of fruits and veggies. I have everything from bananas to pineapple to avacodos and coconuts. I can't wait because I know there I will once again have a green thumb.

Hi Jo
I am not very good at gardening at all lol
I watered my Neighbours Plants while they where away and they are still all alive but I got so bored while watering them, the worst is I always had the Urge to hold the Hose to my Friend lol if she was here just to liven up the watering of the Plants, but I restrained myself lol and did not do it

Hi Gabs, I'm not good either. I am shocked that these plants have survived to be honest. I don't think anyone would leave me in charge of their plants if they wanted them to still be living when they got back home. . Glad u restrained yourself. That might have put an end to a nice friendship.

Well, if I were educated in how to grow certain plants, I think it might be green. I guess I'm somewhere in the middle of the green and brown spectrum. Actually, the times I've tried to grow something, I have been fairly successful. Twice, I planted a garden. Once when I was ten, and then again when I was fifteen. The first time, my lettuce was growing nicely, and a kid who was mowing our back yard, for some reason, mowed over it. When I was fifteen, the same thing happened. I was living in a different house, and to make sure no one did anything to the tomatoes or lettuce, I marked it off, and put a sign on a wooden "stick" by the plants. And some moron kid I went to school with decided he wasn't going to pay attention to anything, and knocked down the sign and destroyed both the tomato plants, and my lettuce while he was mowing our yard (he was getting paid for it, not doing it for free). I was pretty heartsick.

Is there really such as thing as green or brown thumb? At any rate if a supposed brown thumb like you can plant healthy tomatoes and pepper then it is okay to be brown thumb. And you've got two peppers!!! Nice!
You know I've been spreading seeds of tomatoes and pepper on my garden but I've not seen any of the seed sprouting. On the other hand, my orchids are blooming and the mango and avocado trees that I myself planted are teeming with fruits. Now I don't know how would I be classified. Green or brown thumb?

I have heard the expression green thumb all my life, I thought it real funny when my aunt told me mine was brown instead of green. I think u must have a green one. To have orchids blooming in your yard would be such a treat. I know they must be beautiful. Fruit trees like that would be a blessing.I have never eaten a mango or an avocado. Thanks for responding. Happy weekend to u.

Great news about your peppers! I don’t have a green thumb at all and, as much as I love gardens, I don’t really want one! The reason I say this is that, just like cooking, gardening is something I just don’t enjoy at all! I do love nature and beautiful gardens but I am just not the person to tend to them! I do have two indoor plants that are still alive and well after almost six months and that’s pretty good for me!

hello! congrats on your peppers! well, it's not really your "brown thumb" maybe its just finding the right soil and right time to plant your seeds....I live in the Philippines and its a tropical country...most of what we plant in the soil grows....not because of green thumb or something but merely because the soil is just so nutrient rich and the weather / climate is just perfect for planting.......well good luck on your gardening...

my Mom said i've a green thumb. i like planting. part of my chores at home is taking care of our orchids. i don't know if this is true about green and brown thumb. i just know how to take care of plants like my mom and dad. maybe you just need a good soil and a good location for your plants. organic fertilizers would also help... our house is like a jungle, plants every where... :)
