A couple months ago I stopped "dieting" after losing 75 lbs and reaching my original goal weight. I still work out, but am relaxing a bit on that even.. I don't push myself as hard as I used to and I'm taking days off when I want or need to. As far as my eating goes.. I'm not as bad as I was before losing weight, but I'm certainly not very vigilant about what I'm eating anymore.
I was slightly worried that I was gaining weight again, but it wasn't anything to be worried about yet.. just maybe 5 lbs or so. My new jeans aren't getting tight yet..
So yesterday I had to bring my youngest to the ER.. he got knocked down and hit his head really hard, but he's okay. Well, the checking of his blood pressure and taking his temperature was really upsetting him, so when the doc asked to place him on the scale he wanted no part of it. So I had to weigh myself, then pick him up and weigh myself again. Turns out, I lost 5 pounds without even trying! How exciting. Though I could not bask in the glory at the time as I was too concerned for my son.
Have you ever lost weight without trying? Have you ever thought you were gaining weight and then were surprised to find you actually lost weight?

Hi Kats,
Right now I am trying to lose a few pounds that I gained from the brief time I quit smoking. Normally, I have to guard against being underweight so,Yes, I do know what it is like to lose without even trying. If I slip beyond a certain weight then I drop right down to an unhealthy weight. At one point I was at the gym in a workout program and on a diet that they provided to gain weight. Each week I dropped a pound or two. It was not cool because most of the women in the program were there to lose weight. Dieting to lose is just as difficult as it is to gain but not as much fun. Hope your son is ok.

Kats,
I'm so sorry and mostly sorry that you feel that way about yourself. I can tell from your posts that you are a beautiful person. Now I feel bad. I know many large people that are beautiful inside and out. I doubt you look like a deflated balloon and you certainly are so much more than that. Some people just aren't meant to be skinny...ever just as some are not meant to be big ...ever. I'm probably opposite from you. I look horrible when I am underweight...unhealthy and it isn't attractive at all. We aren't that different in a lot of ways. I actually have struggled with my weight pretty much my whole life ...just opposite end of the spectrum from yours. And now...the added weight while not a lot is just as much a struggle because I've had a lifetime spent trying to gain and to even know how to lose is not something that comes naturally. I've had 4 kids and I'm 54...trust me...I don't have a perfect body either and never will at this point. Oh....and I looked in your profile and I see you didn't put a pic of yourself in there. Your kids are beautiful and I'm sure you are too!

Wish I could have sympathy for you, lol. I've struggled with my weight all my life. I gain easily and have never been skinny. I doubt I've ever even been an average weight for my height, except for maybe when I was like 5 years old. Even as a preteen I remember weighing more than some adults I knew, though at the time I was not obese.
Even now I'll never know what it's like to be average or skinny.. not without surgery to remove the 20 or so pounds of skin that's just hanging there from the pregnancies and from being obese for 8 years. I look like a big deflated balloon right now.. and probably always will.

That's terrific! Of course I'm sorry you had to be in the ER in the first place. Actually, last week I decided to weigh myself, but I kind of expected to have gained some weight. Although I had not been eating a lot, I also had not been actively watching everything I put in my mouth. To my surprise, I lost five pounds. I got off the scale, and back on...I did that three times. LOL I think it was stress. I've never had stress make me eat less, but I'll take eating less than eating more. ;)

I have been eating more, and not paying attention to what I'm eating.. dangerous combination!

When I switched to organic meat and went off my prescription meds, I lost some weight without even trying. Wish I knew how I did it, because I'd like to do it again.

Hey kats! Good for you gf! I guess you've trained your body so
well now that it is accustomed to the new way of eating and
exercising so no matter what you do even if it is a bit less you
still lose weight! I wish I could do that! I don't weight that
much, but it's the way that the weight is distributed that bothers
me, being it is all around the middle and hips! Oh, and I forgot,
my big boobs! And since I have a bad knee and ankle exercising
is difficult. I am just getting back into walking again and that
is difficult enough! I keep cramping up and am trying to work
through the pain so I can ignore it and keep going, but walking
is about all I can do unless I try to use my "Power Rider" which
would give me a better overall workout if I can stand it!lol

Walking is a great start.. be careful about that pain though. You don't need to further aggravate your injuries.

Firstly, I am so glad that your son is o.k. It must have been very worrying for you. I recently had the same experience whilst I was away. I did not diet and ate many forbidden foods but we did so much walking. Especially in London and Rome. When I came back I was scared to get on the wii board but to my delight I had lost 3lbs. I do feel a bit thick around the waist and so this morning started to use the wii again but did not weight myself. will weigh tomorrow as I need a reality check to keep going. I want to lose another dress size to get down to a 14. I think that if I lose any more weight than that then my face will probably collapse in wrinkles I was coming from a size 20 so I am proud of myself to reach a 16 tomorrow I will know the truth!

Congrats, that's a great achievment! There's nothing wrong with a size 14.. they say Marilyn Monroe was a size 14.

I'm glad your child is okay.
That's so great that you lost all that weight. Can you give me advice? How did you do it? It must feel great that you can go on without being so strict about it.
I have lost 30lbs and hope to lose a lot more but I ride my bike a lot.
Lately my motivation has been going down the drain every single day. I need to get it back.

Motivation is hard.. but it's the key to success. I don't really know how I stayed motivated all that time.. I know my eating patterns wavered.. I tried to stick with a low cal, healthy diet, but I am an eater so that was the hardest part for me and I'd cave often. My success was mostly based on my work outs. I joined a gym and started taking the classes and just loved it. I made friends and got to have adult conversations which is so important for a stay at home mom. So even when I didn't feel like working out I'd still be excited to go to the gym and see my friends.
We just have to find what works for us. Try out some classes.. and don't just take 1 class and decide to hate it... you have to stick with it awhile. After a few tries if you really don't like it then you can find something different.. but try a variety of things until you find one you really love.. that will help.

Hey,Congratulations on losing weight. I have lost weight when people have been staying here or I have been sick and I don't eat..but then I know I am going to lose some so I bet it was truly a very nice surprise to actually lost 5 pounds without having even tried. Maybe your metabolism is burning more fat now that you have lost weight and it speeded up some. It is good though. I need to get back on mine cause I am afraid to even get on my scale. But I want to lose some weight before our Apple Day Festival in October because I want to be able to ride on the rides with my sister this year. Last year I was unable to..Again congrats on the weight loss.

I am so sorry about your son. The last time I successfully lost weight it was summer, and I did not know it, I was losing accidentally. Then I met the man I ended up marrying. I gained thirty pounds in a matter of a month!!! Have not successfully lost since then.

I bet the reason you have lost more weight without even trying is probably because now you have lost so much weight you are actually more active in so many little ways you maybe have not thought about and of course your eating habits have probably changed too again in little ways ! You should be so proud of yourself and what you have managed to achieve! x

How awesome that you were able to lose weight without really trying to lose it. There have been some rare times that I've been able to lose a little bit of weight without really trying, but those times are few and far between. What I have observed in my experiences is that those times that you lose weight without effort is typically just after you've been on a diet and increased exercise. I think that the reason for that is because of the fact that you've increased your metabolism.

I'm sorry to hear about your son... glad that he's alright! It sounds like you're doing AMAZINGLY!!!
I have lost weight without trying due to being an exercise maniac and, thus, having insane caloric needs. I also lost weight when I stopped eating as much after the passing of my very beloved grandmother.
