Do you enjoy driving? What's it like for you?

I'm 18 and never driven a car before, a lot of people my age have got a car by now but I feel kind of left out now. The student insurance is so expensive here that I don't think it's actually worth having a car as I can just use public transport for now. This has left me thinking am I getting left out for no reason? I mean how fun is it to drive? How often do you drive? What are the costs? And add anything else that will make me jealous LOL just kidding...

Its really a thrilling experience to have a drive. Whatever it may be i am the controller of the vehicle which gives me a great pleasure when i drive it. I love to have a long drive for two hours continuously, particularly in night which is a superb moment.

Earlier this year I passed my practical driving test at the age of 37 years old. Since then I have really enjoyed being able to drive my car without needing a driving instructor. It makes my life much easier and I have more free time available. Waiting around for buses is a distant memory. Though I still enjoy going on a train trip. I like to drive my disabled son to nursery and appointments that he has to go to. I can drive to places I adore like Glastonbury with all its crystal shops. I tend to drive my car every day or every other day. It is very enjoyable to drive a car I think. The costs are quite high but worth it. I bought my car and it cost a few thousand pounds. I paid for insurance and an MOT. I need to by fuel for my car three or four times a month. I am pleased to say that fifty pounds fills the tank. Car Insurance can be expensive for a person under the age 25 years old. I wish I had learned to drive when I was 18 or 19 years old.

Wow thanks for sharing this... That was pretty late, well at least now I know that people have learnt much later, it just seems to the the norm these days to learn so young. I will be taking the lessons next year in the holidays after college.

Yes I enjoy it. It is like riding a teenpark ride. But I hate it when I met irresponsible drivers on the road. Do you really need to have that student insurance in your country? What is that for?

Honestly, when I first drove a car I felt so happy and excited. I got so addicted to it and wanted to learn even more. I had mixed emotions, mixed with fear, anxiety, excitement and happiness at the same time. As weeks of driving went by my enthusiast for driving had slowly decreased and now, I didnt feel that way anymore since driving for me became a lifestyle. I already got used to it.

lol Thanks for this, I was wondering when this kind of response came up - the 'i got used to it after a while' comment lol. I don't know if I'll get bored but now it seems like a really cool idea to be getting in a car driving around - it would give me freedom.

I am 19 years old, and i have a driving liecence. I drive my dads car at the moment, and i love it. I dont enjoy the driving fast style thing, i just like being able to travel from one place to another without needing a lift, or having to wait for transport, but there are loads of costs you need to know before you get a car. Firstly, there is the cost of the car itself. Depending if you are going for a newish car, or an old banger, this can vary greatly, but as a first car, i would put aside around £3-4K. Insurance is the next big cost. For me, in a years time, it will be £1000 a year, minimum. Its soo expensive for new drivers to get insured. If you havent got your licence yet, i would recommend you get yours now. Even if you dont want a car, it just means once you get a car, it will be cheaper to get insurance. THen there is petrol/disel. This isn't usually too much of a problem if you have a smaller car, with a smaller engine (which you are liekly to have due to insurance reasons), but its still a cost. Then there is the cost of mechnics. Sometimes getting a reliable car isn't the best option, as it may be more expensive to repair. Generally, japanese are good, as they aren't too expensive to repair, as well as being relaible, but small germans cars (think VW fox, Smart, etc) are also pretty good Hope this helps

It is good to drive when you are with friends. At least you have to divide the costs amongst yourselves as against driving alone. We only do this once a year. We go on a road trip. From a 4 hour drive to a 12 hour drive. That depends on our moods. Sometimes we just drive and sleep where we feel tired already. What is a student insurance?
