My 14 month old son fell from his high chair onto the floor today and hit his head pretty hard. He has a bump, which is bruised of course and I have been feeling so antsy about it because I am the biggest worry wart in the world! It happened at my mom's house and was a complete accident because he wasn't strapped in and my sister didn't know and took the tray off to clean it. I was in the kitchen and he was in the dining room, so I didn't see him until he had already fell. My sister kept apologizing because she thought it was her fault, bless her heart. I called the doctor on call just for peace of mind. She told me to watch him closely and make sure he doesn't get sick (vomit), or act strange. So far he has been acting normal. I'm still worried though. I'll probably be up half the night. I cried more than he did though! lol
Has your child ever fell from high up and bumped their head? Were they ok?

My daughter has fallen down the stairs twice now, fallen off the couch and just the other day she was spinning and ran into the wall. She is tree now once they start walking more the falling keeps you on your toes. She has always been alright, I think I have had a few heartattaches along the way. I try to keep a strong face for her so she dosen't panic, but she is usually off playing way before my heart starts beating out of my chest. It is so painful when little ones get hurt not just them but everyone around them. Accidents happen luckly at that age kids still bounce pretty well. Besides a good bruise I bet he will be fine. I have herd thought that vomit usually right away can be a concusion. Know at some point you are going to feel that you should have you child wear a helmet and full body gear!

Thank you so much for your response. It makes me feel better when I know someone else has been through what I am going through and can give me positive encouragement. I already feel like he needs the full body armor..lol I have been told many times that this is only the start. I just hope I can handle it later on when he comes to me screaming because he scraped his knee or something. He's my everything and all I want is to protect him!

My daughter was a preemie which I think made me a little overprotective but they just go rushing into everything and they fall a lot pretty soon it just becomes a normal part of you day and only the really bad ones get you. Half the time she is up and running again before I can even ask her if she is ok. Just keep in mind that we all surived our childhoods somehow and we all do this. Just keep smiling and hoping that nothing too bad will happen. If we get them through childhood with no broken bones or stiches we are doing really good. And if you can get family pictures or holiday pictures with no visible head wonds you have done great. Remember never give your children warnings about pictures because then it seems like they are trying to get a bruise on their head. Keep some humor about it or you will cry! Good luck and brace yourself =)

Thanks! This made me smile! Yeah, I know I am an overprotective mom but I want to try and not be because I know things are going to happen that are beyond my control. I like what you said about the pictures..lol I'll remember that! =)

My baby fell from our bed when he was 5 months. He just started to roll over that time. It was my fault because I fell asleep and my baby is playing beside me. I woke up when I heard my baby was crying very loud so I rushed to him and get him immediately and hug him to comfort him and I gave him water to calm. I blamed myself and cried because I was so stupid for letting it happened to my baby at his very young age. Thanked God he's okay and has no bruised and did not vomit. He is already 8 months now but I'm still blaming myself, it's my most embarassing experienced.

Any parent that hasn't had something like this happen to them hasn't seen everything yet I say. I don't know one mom who hasn't had a kid roll off the bed, fall down from somewhere or do something to where we should have been paying attention. Don't feel bad at all about it. I have had to get over it myself over the past week or so. Our kids are fine and that is what matters. =) I'm sure worst things can happen.

Aww, thanks so much! He slept pretty good last night! I went in like 3 or 4 times just to make sure he would stir, which he did. I also kept a close eye on his breathing and temp. Today he was himself, just like last night after it happened so I'm sure he'll be alright. His bruise is fading and he doesn't act like it bothers him at all. =)

I sincerely hope your son will be ok. If you can, try and take him to the nearest hospital for a checkup as falling and hitting the head can lead to concussion which can be pretty serious. Not to worry you but better safe than sorry eh? Children are always falling but when they hit their heads, I am always very worried. When my children where younger and they hit their head, I was always told not to let them fall asleep as the concussion could set in then. Bless you and your son.

Yeah, when I called the doctor on call, she told me what to look for and listen for. Signs of concussion are vomiting, getting dizzy all of a sudden, behavior changes, and non-dilating of the pupils. Everything was normal with him. He never got sick, he didn't act weird at all, and his eyes were fine. The bump was raised, which is also a good thing because if you know that your child has hit their head hard enough but nothing has raised up, it could actually have caved in and THAT is when you should worry. He is fine though, no worries anymore! Thanks so much for your kind words. My first instinct was to take him to the ER but of course after hearing what the doctor said, I decided against it because he acting normal and is still acting normal.

Take a moment and breath..just as you said he is fine but be prepared once he starts crawling it's just a hop skip and jump to full on running. My son was the same way and it hasn't stopped since. He is ten now but I've had more than enough of my fair share of scares. Running into walls, jumping off the stairs, sliding down the stairs on the toy box lid.. This is why I have so many grey hairs.. Lol enjoy your little guy while he's still so sweet. Just know the bumps and bruises are apart of growing up.

Oh, he's walking and even trying to run a little already. LOL...so yeah, he's had his bumps and scrapes, but never has he fallen from up high and hurt himself like he did yesterday, that is why I was so worried. Thanks for your kind words, as I have said before, it really helps to know that others have been through the same thing.

It's normal to feel the way you feel especially after your child falls off a chair. My son fell a number of times before he turned 1. I am glad that so far, nothing serious came of it, he was really ok!. We would find him sometimes off the bed and on the floor yet he did not cry at all! The older people in our family used to say that An Angel surely did catch my son and saved from from falling...Thank God for sending his angels to rescue my little boy...

Yeah, I agree. I don't think we can do it on our own. God truly does watch us all the time and keep angels around in case we fall or get hurt. I am a firm believer in that. =)

my son is about the same age as your is. we had our "fun" too. he fell a number of times. even from the potty as he was sitting. even today i can't understand how he did it, but he did. you have to realize that the child while he grows up is going to heart himself in accidents. you have to be careful, but you can't always protect him. its great that he didn't heart himself, the brusises will hill in a couple of days, and you and your family are going to be more careful. relax you realy can't prevent this kind of accidnts.

I always feel bad though, like I could have done something although I know things happen. I'm always careful but this time it was beyond my control. His bruise is already fading and he didn't get a shiner like the doc said he probably would. We are truly blessed for sure. =)
