Why are they all going 3D?

Have you noticed that after Avatar, there has been a trend in the movies of making the films in 3D? The upcoming films of 2010 will mostly be in 3D -- Step-up 3D, Piranha, Harry Potter 7 (Part 1). What do you think -- is this just a fad or is the 3D format here to stay?

It basically is like everything else. Marketing researchers continue to give the world more and more engaging entertainment.
Someday I suppose we will not have to actually view a movie we as a viewer will be part of the actual film. LOL...

hi, joram!as for me its fine if they are producing a 3D mmovie.i just feel a little uncomfortable to use the 3D glasses- because i'm wearing eye glasses to watch them plus it cost more money than the normal movie- but as time goes by the price will be less(how long it would takes?5 years i guess!.)thats the 3D movie format we are discussing about while the film makers are eager to make movie with 3d design.as time goes by they will need an actor and actress no more..it all about technology.

Ok first off there will never be a time when they wont need actors. just to keep that straight. Nothing will EVER replace actors.
And second. There will soon be 3D glasses for people like you. XD you just wait. they'll combine the two things so you don't look so silly XD

Movies are trying to compete with t.v./Since most people have big screen,High definition t.v. at home , the movies are using 3D to lure people back to the theaters. It all depends on how 3D movies gross . If they are a huge success, then they will be here to stay . But if they do well but not great, They will be considered a fad.

Because one movie had success and they think they can bounce off that success. It's kind of like a fad. One person does it and all the rest want to try to join in and copy them. It's also a supposed "next gen" kind of thing(which is pretty much a "fad" as well.
^^^I wrote this while waiting for the page to load. I based it off your title. I would say it's a fad. At least in it's current state. I feel there will be further advances in 3d formats so that the "3d experience" today will be worthless when the almost "4d" experience comes out.

Well, I think this is the revolution to the entertainment world. People now want something that look real and if possible they can even feel it. I have heard of last time there was some invention on TV that you can smell the smell of what is shows in the TV, for example, if someone use perfume in the TV show, you will smell the perfume smell as well. This is what people are looking for. If the 3D fans are getting more and more, I think this will last longer but if not many are interested in it then it will subside and disappear one day.

3D format will definitely here to stay. For sure in the coming years people in the movie industry will find a way to lessen the cost of producing the 3D movies which in turn will yield to higher profits for them. However someone will surely develop another technology which will be better than 3D format. Let's wait and see

A lot of people seem to think that 3D is better, but truth be told, it's really not. I have gotten headaches from watching some films in 3D. Also, the price! 3D is more expensive than the 2D. I was paying about $3 more for 3D than I was for the 2D. It was ridiculous. 3D isn't worth it for me.

Well 3D is here to stay because this time around it's new technology and there has been a huge investment in it. If it wasn't then companies wouldn't already be selling 3D TVs.
The thing is that the studios which make movies are still using it as a gimmick to get people to watch, rather than employing it as an embellishment in teeling the story. If they keep carrying on using it as a gimmick then people won't grow excited by it, yet it will still be around.
Persoanly I prefer 2D as I've only seen one movie in 3D which made it work as a story embelishment and several which treat it as a pointless gimmick.

I certainly hate 3Ds! Avatar in fairness was a great 3D movie but I could have appreciated it all the same were it in 2D!
From what I know, they generate more income using 3D.
Okay, there's free snacks. A small waffle with barely any hotdog inside and a small cup of iced tea.

I haven't been able to watch 3d films but it is my impression that the movie experience is better than that of 2d films. Watching 2d films is great but that's just it on the other hand watching a 3d film gives a feeling that you are part of the movie itself. with the help of HD technology, images are crispier and if you add 3d on it, it's just like you are watching real action and not just a movie. I guess, that's where movies are going. If today we need glasses to fully appreciate 3d movies, there will come a time when everything shown on TV is already 3d without the need of especial 3d eyewear.

Well see the 3D technology is getting really better. With cameron's new whatever he calls it. 3D is here to stay. they make more money have less pirates and it truly is a better experience. lt is however important to realize that there is what l call fake 3D. that's where they shoot the movie in 2D and then convert it. it's cheaper and they still get to charge you the overpriced 3D ticket but totally screws up the movie making it darker once during the conversion process and a second time when you where the glasses. if it's a dark movie like the last airbender you end up with something terrible.
Anyway l went off topic. my point is 3D is awesome when handled right and will be more and more common from now on. XD

I think it's a fad, but will continue with and time will make the traditional cinema is gone, is remarkable technological developments and progress is always for the better. I still have not seen a 3D movie and the day you see one is not going to be like my experience, but I think if I like it, not seeing the normal format movies

well for now its the nest thing to reality just wait for future where we will be having 4D actors jumping and kicking in front of you and car crashing on you, how that feels, go with new technology. Do you still use monochrome computer or are you using latest LCD or LED moniter same reason with movies
