Geez I could not stand her scratching I feel itchy too just watching her so I took my baby to the vet this afternoon. She checked her she said there were no signs of mites she suspected skin allergy. She asked me if I changed her food I said nope. She then asked me to change the shampoo. As I had to do some errand and she took her follow up blood test which came in with a normal result. I left Ginger with her. While I was out she observed the pup and she kept scratching. She checked her ears but it looked clean but she cleaned it and obtained some samples. Under the microscope she saw a lot of ear mites. She even saved the samples for me to see. It was a lot. so we had her medicated and it was no allergy at all but freaking ear mites. I can relax now lol there is nothing to worry anymore. She will be on Dexoryl for a week and hope it would go away. She got her last 5 in 1 vaccine today but next week she would be back to get her rabies shot and heart worm tabs. Glad I brought her and its early.

Well about time, hasn't this been going on for months? Why didn't the vet checked for them before? I am glad that she will now get the treatment she needed. Soon your dog will be back to normal in no time..:)

Wow, I thought by regular cleaning we can avoid the ear mites. Is there a way to prevent the dogs from getting ear mites?

Good that you found the ear mites. If the scratching continues though, it might also be general skin allergies as well, in which case trying to change the diet to something more hypo-allergenic could help. There are a lot of reasons dogs itch, and especially in the summertime, but infestations (of all kinds: fleas, ticks, mites), seasonal allergies and food allergies seem to be the three main reasons.

Hi shira, the scratching is less now and not like before her vet gave her the ear drops and it seems to be working now. I have front line spray for the ticks and fleas and she is parasite free now. She just had her last shot of the 5 in 1 vaccine and come this friday her rabies shot and heartworm as well. The next week after this she would be getting her bordatella shot and she is good to be taken outside already.

Ear mites, huh? Good thing your vet took swabs even though she couldn't see them.

That really stinks that your pup has earmites, but then I'm sure that you are very glad to have gotten to the bottom of why she kept scratching all the time. I know that I would be relieved to find out what was wrong with one of my pets. I'm surprised that her frontline hadn't helped with that though because our kitten had really bad earmites shortly after we got her and the vet prescribed frontline for that and it did take care of the problem.

Yup frontline did not work for her. I read the label and it says it's just good for fleas and ticks but not for mites so I guess that's why it never helped. Now she is doing okay. She is cute as a button and so active.

Those ear mites are nasty and can cause brain damage if not tended to in a timely manner. I'm glad you were able to remedy the situation in time.

Hey, Candyfairy, I'm glad you finally find out what bothered your little girl. I hope the medication will help her stop scratching. I'm not sure I understood well: you said she scratched all over her body because of some... earmites? I didn't know it can be posible. And it seems Binne's vet didn't know that either. Binne started scratching herself again, so we went to the vet. She only gave Binne an antibiotic for 4 days, saying that Binne has an allergy. But after 4 days Binne keeps scratching.

Yup she would scratched her ear then she look helpless and the scratches any part of her body. The vet did examine her entire body there were no fleas and ticks and mites in her body it was clean. Nut the vet did told me that she scratched because she could not help the itch in her ears and also a psychological thing she scratched all over her body. Now that she has been given the meds she is no longer scratching like mad. Initially the vet thought it was really thought she had allergies but thank God she took a more careful look or she would prescribed the wrong medication for no good.

I am very glad that you find to settle the issue with your dog, it must be unbearable itching, poor your dog. My dog also did something similar, but here the case is that your skin is very sensitive and delicate, then with a single flea that has started to scratch it and sometimes gets hurt, the solution is to put a pipette for fleas and bathe a dog shampoo and anti mite.

Prevention is better than cure what some people say but loving your pets everyday is the best medication you can offer to your pets. Good job....
