Can you make $$ placing ads?

For some reason or another I enjoy placing ads. Is there a legit. company, product, or service that will pay me to place advertising. Free ads, not something thats going to cost money. I tried one place, (don't remember the name)it was free, but I don't think it was legit. it was placing job ads on craigs list, well the ads wouldn't show up, something called ghosting. So that didn't work out. I would appreciate any suggestions.
