Steven Tyler to be a judge on American Idol?

So I was reading online that the latest "argument" between Tyler and the rest of the band (particularly Perry) has arisen because Steven Tyler has been tapped to be a judge on American Idol. Evidently, none of the other band members knew about it and they aren't pleased to think he's committed to a television show without making them aware of it. I don't watch American Idol and I haven't since maybe the first couple of seasons... but there have been a few judges that have come and gone, most recently Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell. What do you think of Steven Tyler as a judge now? Is he a good choice? Should he be doing it all, with respect to his commitment to Aerosmith?

Right... they are saying if he gets into television, the band will be done. But then just this week, I read that he's also recorded his first solo material too... a song for a movie. So, it makes you feel that the Tyler/Aerosmith days are numbered :\

This is the first time I've heard that he's working on a solo material. It would really be so sad if Aerosmith does breakup.

I think Steven Tyler would be an awesome pick as an American idol judge. he definitely knows music without a doubt. He's easy on the eyes as well! i would watch American idol just to see him! American idol ratings would be sure to climb with him. It would be great to see him as an Idol judge!

I've always had a "thing" for Steven Tyler LOL I find him incredibly appealing when he's performing. I've seen some pictures of him "off duty" that were not so attractive to me but, at his best, yowza I do think that, if he were to be a judge, many of the performers would pay close attention to his critiques.

No problem with me when Steven Tyler is the judge, he is a great singer and Aerosmith is a popular band in the 80's and everything about the band is great. However, i do not know if Steven Tyler can be harsh or kind or frank to the finalist as American Idol finalist needs people that will move them, that will change who they are before and develop their talent more, to sharpen what they have and what they will become. I believe Judges of American idol has a big part on how the finalist change for the first time they sing on stage until on the time that they are elimated. Judges are not always for criticism but for advice and suggestion. i hope Steven Tyler have something like that of Simon that is frank. I noticed voters of America listen to Simon Cowell in choosing their American Idol.
