yesterday i was reading newspaper and this news attracted me...that indian government is planning to create and launch a laptop of 30 us dollars....this laptop will be specially made for students....this laptop will be an educational laptop....
this laptop will have configuration as follows..
-single unit system with touch screen and an integral keyboard together with ram of 2 gb
-wi-fi connectivity
-usb port
-2 watt power system to suit poor power supply areas[villages]
recently the biggest indian motor company TATA launched NANO car having price of 2500 us dollars...and this car is been popular nowadays....
i am sure this laptop will help indian villagers a lot.....because they have guts ,talent but due to lack of money they just cant afford these things......
thats why i am proud to be an indian .....

30 dollars is really really unrealistic price that too for a touchscreen. Have you ever heard of a simple netbook which is cheaper than 150 dollars and has features all the features like wifi, video conferencing,2gb ram??? i dont think so and above that it will be touchscreen!!!!!!!! Not at all possible. If they had said a normal laptop or netbook without a touchscreen then maybe it would have been digestable. But 30 dollars is how much Rs.1500 that is the cost of a 1gb ram how can they make a touchscreen tablet??? I would be really really happy if the touchscreen came out and would buy it as soon as it launches ,but i dont think it will be so less. They are saying the cost might further reduce to 10 dollars are they kidding???
A six inch black and white screen cost 60 dollars and they will make a full touchscreen tablet for 30 dollars??

hi abj congratulations as that sounds really helpfull to your villagers who have the ability but not the money to use a laptop even here in the US where I am laptops can sometimes be pricey and if this is specially made for students that will indeed be great and a real tool
for getting through the educational process.

There is a difference between aspiration and reality.
The model shown is a prototype. In order to have a low cost tablet PC or whatever, the production cost needs to be very low. This means the raw materials used, labour charges, and other directly related costs. This means that there is a need of some subsidy, and/or cutting corners in order to make it a reality.
Remember the sub-one hundred USD laptop project? The actual cost had to be raised due to the increase in other costs. Anything can happen between now and the projected launch date. Let us hope it will not turn into vapourware.
If the product does come into production there are questions on its durability, capability, and usability.
Please do not get the idea that I am looking down on the project and all those involved. Dreams and reality may not go together as recorded in history.

India is really the cheap and best country!!
Though India had managed to produce the world's cheapest car,it had quit a bit of flaws in it....Like short-circuit fire and the motor-bike like cruising sound, etc.
But this was the product from the biggest Indian motor company 'TATA'.
Well what to say about the world's largest democratic Govt. We all have heard about the CWG scandal.SO there is no reason to say the 30 us dollars laptop would be launched without any political game or technical glitch.
I hope that this vision succeeds and full fills a part of the Late prime minister
