Having an Organized House

We have lived in our house for over 24 years, and we haven't always kept up in getting rid of things. So, there are lots of areas of clutter throughout the house. My question is: Which things can you give away? Some clothes I don't want or my kids don't want are fine to clean and give away, but what about worn out clothes--is there a place that takes them (clean of course) and shreds them for stuffing pillows or something? Or do you just throw them away? I have trouble just throwing some things away. What do you do?
