Did you reverse engineer your toys when you were young?

I did but I wasn't successful on putting them back together so i always end up with a broken toy. I destroyed most of them including my blue power ranger action figure that does karate chop, my Power wheels ATV that I love, and so many more that I lost count. I guess I was a bad kid since I destroy them things.

When I was very young, I was curious and I tinker a lot with stuff. Fortunately, there wasn't much to tinker with in the house except for one portable alarm clock.
So, when I was barely a teenager, I broke my father's Bulova alarm clock because I wanted to see the inside mechanism. Unfortunately, the screwdriver in my hand slipped right into the spring when I was disassembling it. Needless to say, it was disfigured into a useless mess.
My father was away a lot so he didn't miss his alarm clock until much later. Of course, he couldn't find it because I hid it together with my guilty conscience. Years later, I tried getting my little experiment fixed. It couldn't. It was beyond repair. Well, I didn't have the guts to tell my father that I was the culprit. So, it was an easy decision not to tell. Now that I'm all grown up, there seems to be no point anymore. So, it remained my dirty little secret to this very day.

It must have been hard for you keeping that secret to yourself for all these years feeling guilty. You should tell your dad someday.

Yes. I took everything apart trying to figure out how it worked. My dad never said anything to me about it. He was understanding considering my family is full of inventors and engineers.

ya i am an expert in reversing things, in a sense breaking things i meant..so far i have controlled my hands not to break anything by my moms shouting and punishments, breaking toys is habit for me when i was a kid to explore things on the working principle, and putting back the pices together is the worst task for me.coz am lazy at fixing things.

I did quite a few damages for small small things at home, though they are not all toys. I must confess the toys of those days when I was young, almost 70 years, were not so sophisticated - at least I did not have any. But I have to mention one experience - my attempt to repair a table alarm clock. I did every thing right keeping the clock face down and when I turned it back, lo! the cardboard dial was totally damaged. I do not have to say what happened to me in the hands of my dad.
Well, to this day I keep doing lot of repairs to gadgets, watches etc. with almost 75 percent success!

I don't really destroy them like that but more of that I get lost when its time to put things back together, as I said reverse engineering.

This is a very interesting topic. My answer is a big "yes". I remember my dad bought me an off road rc, but due to curiosity I start dismantling the toy to see how it works from the inside. And I do it by the use of a small kitchen knife. :)
