This is the worst flood in Pakistan in over 80 years. Over 1600 people have died, 2 million are homeless and at least 12 million people have been affected. With more rain forecast for the next 24-48 hours, the situation is just going to get worse. Boats have been sent out to rescue survivors, but the government of this 3rd world country just does not have the necessary resources to cope with this disaster. Images of people walking through chest high water with children on their shoulders are all over the media. Millions of people have lost their homes, sources of livelihood and all their belongings. My prayers are with the people of Pakistan at this difficult time.

The international community has rendered a lot of support. Millions of dollars of aid have flown into Pakistan, but more is still needed. About one-fifth of the country is submerged and the monsoon season still hasn't ended. The United Nations has appealed for a half billion dollars in donations.
