Benedictine nun's death used for immigration debate

The Benedictine Sisters of Virginia do not want the incident to fuel the debate in the "forum of the illegal immigration agenda" but emphasize Christs' command to forgive, but that hasn't stopped the Internet posters. Denise Mosier was killed by a drunk driver who is also accused of being here illegally, and many are posting blame on the current administration for allowing the person to be here. I do not see this as an illegal immigration issue; the issue is drunk driving. Many are killed mainly by citizens, and that is not better or worse. Solve the immigration "problem" and this real problem won't go away. Look into the driving under the influence. That will serve the public better.

that's pretty crass. using a tragic accident caused by something not really related to illegal immigration at all to support their own agenda. why do that anyway? don't they have arguments that are good enough without twisting everything else they hear?

not really. it is about drunk driving and dealing with it. so this particular drunk driver was an illegal immigrant - what about all the other drunk drivers who aren't illegal immigrants but also who kill people? stricter things maybe should be done the first time somebody is caught. in this case, ok, deportation. you can't deport the others though so what gets done? in other cases making sure in one way or another that they can't drive drunk again.

Thank you for pointing that out for me. This morning I thought I would have to research police procedures to see where along the process of being arrested and convicted does the system detect and report these cases to the federal authorities. I might still look into it anyway, but I am discouraged by my finding that different Virginia counties handle things differently. I ran into the same problem researching taking oaths on the bible - it depends what county the trial is in.
