hello mylotters!
here, Ramadan is fast approaching and i'd like to raise a topic regarding this because i'd also want to hear your views!
i am a non-muslim residing here in the kingdom and i understand the significance of ramadan by showing a willingness to make minor allowances for its demands such as abstaining from eating or drinking in public and observe modesty in work environments..

the month of ramadan is the islamic month for fasting and more prayers, than usual... all done for the sake of allah... during ramadan, muslims ask for forgiveness of past sins pray for guidance and help to refrain from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self restraints and good deeds... it begins on the 12th of this month here in the philippines, my friend...

here it begins on the 11th day of this month.
for muslims they will work 6 office hours and for non-muslims like myself, there's no change made on the schedule of 8 hours daily....
Engr. Felmer, from Marawi City is a devoted muslim. He's my former colleague...

hi kumar I am a yank from the US so really do not know much about ramadam except my mylot friends that observe it fast and pray, its a holy day as I understand for muslims and after 9/11 I do not have much to do with Muslims but I know there were American Muslims who were every bit as appalled as the rest of us. I hope that there are other muslims who do
not practice hatred against other religions.

Ms Hatley,
yes i understand what you mean and it may vary from country to country on how they observe and participate during this month.
here, one of the main benefits of ramadan is an increase compassion for those in need of the necessities of life, a sense of self-purification and reflection and a renewed focus on spirituality. they also appreciate the feeling of togetherness shared by family and friends throughout the month.

I don't really know much about ramadan except for the fasting and stuff. Maybe i'd keep track of this discussion just to get informed.

Dear,
As opposed to other holidays, when people often indulge, Ramadan is by nature a time of sacrifice.

Muslims dont eat or drink during ramadan. They fast daily from the first call to prayer until the last call. they break this fast after sunset called 'iftar'.
I read somewhere that Ramadan is celabrated because this was when the Quran was first given to prophet Mohammad.
Even non-Muslims are not allowed to eat in public during Ramadan. There are heavy fines if you do not follow this.
