In my desktop.. it is showing 12 GB used in my F: drive.. but when I double click on it.. it just show 4 system folders nothing else.. when I select all of them it shows 1.28 GB space occupied by those 4 folders.. but where are other remaining folders? I scanned the system.. it was effected with virus.. I scanned it with latest definition of Norton it found few viruses and removed.. I repaired registry too.. almost everything I have done to repair the system.. from DOS prompt too it's showing just 4 hidden-system folders present. I know data is there in the same drive but where? no hidden folder there.. nothing.. any one can help for solution?

Well 1st of all try this: In folder option go to view then go to "hide protected operating system file" and uncheck this checkbox. This will make system files visible to you. For ex. there's a folder called System Volume information in every drive and will only show when thats' unchecked. Secondly there's a very bad property of win32.sality virus that it infects the system files and then whatever antivirus u will install will automatically get infected. There's one possible solution which worked for me ( win32.sality.r virus has kicked me a lot). Just search for Quick Heal and install it one of the friends computer(which is not infected) and update it. In Quick heal there's a feature of creating an emergency disk which will scan your system during boot time(it will work similar to when u install xp and will work when u boot with it as 1st boot device). This disk will remove viruses from your system files since once they get infected then all further installations of softwares will be infected. This is definitely going to help u. Secondly always keep the box in folder option("hide extensions of known types")unchecked bcoz these viruses replace original folders with folders.exe with same icon as that of folder and with that nae and the original will be system hidden.

Try using a data recovery program such as recuva. I also experienced a similar situation. My drive was infected by a virus and I had to format it. I recovered some of the files by using recuva.
