Intel and AMD are the two leading manufacturer company for Desktop and Laptop Processors, including chipsets.
Maybe you mean that "better" in particular usage. AMD processors are the first choice of gamers because of its efficient optimization of graphics. Usually you can find AMD on computers used in Internet and Gaming Cafes.
Intel, on the other hand, performs at its best in Applications platform system that runs resources-hungry software such as Video Editing and Rendering. Intel based platforms are mostly found on Offices and other organizations that offers the above services.
Prices are indeed a big questions for the consumers. In my opinion, Marketing Strategy is one of the reason here. In their side, we don't know.
Hope this helps!

AMD is cheaper but it is as good as the Intel. I have heard so many rumours about AMD but now i have an AMD powered laptop and it is doing nice. The plus thing about AMD is that it is more graphics supporting, so if you are a gamer, you have to go for AMD. Your choice, AMD or Intel.

Based on my experiences, Intel processor is more reliable than AMD processor. If you use computer with Intel processor inside, it's performance will stay stable for many hours while AMD processor tend to slow down after several hours. However, AMD processor has advantage in graphic processing. Intel processor is more expensive due to it's brand. They has brand equity that make them considered as the best in the market. If you use your computer for personal use and won't use it more than ten hours non-stop, you may choose AMD. It's good for graphic processing. I swear!

If I were to buy a processor last year I would have chosen AMD. But due to the recent release of the new Intel processors, Core-i3, i5 and i7, I bought an Intel processor. It didn't fail me on my every needs and I have been using it for 5 months now. The new Intel processors are now both more powerful and efficient.

They both perform well, and Yes AMD are cheaper, it could be a marketing strategy for AMD, I have been using AMD for years now, i started with there 1.2ghz 1.6ghz sempron, now i have a dual core 4.2 GHz. I am planing to get me a quad core, the processor cost only $100 in our country.
