Do stuff that you genuinely like, not stuff that you think others will like. Also, design a header or some other elements for the blog yourself, instead of using ready stuff for it. It will make your blog stand out and feel more like you.

I would just...blog what you want to blog. Blogs are best when the writer is passionate about what they're blogging. Share the link with family and friends, first. Then, encourage them to share the link with their friends. It may be slow, but you'll be having more and more people read your blog. On some blog sites, you can choose to be added to a directory of blogs, which will also add new readers. Another way to get more readers is to read other people's blogs and interact with them. Directly asking them to read your blog may annoy them. But interacting with them WITHOUT asking may make them curious, and then they'll look at your blog.
