I recently shattered my fibula. Two weeks ago, I went on a medical mission trip to an European country. 10 hours after arriving from the airport, I was going down some stairs that didn't have rails. Half way there, I see at the bottom 2 older ladies that were waiting to get up to their rooms, and I thought it be nice to simply jump and let them walk up. I thought I would jump about 3-5 feet high max, but when I did, I landed only on my right leg, and broke my fibula. Now I have it in a boot.
So, how about you? How did you break your first bone?

Broken bones specially on the lower limbs really will leave you feeling "helpless" for a long period of time.
I broke my ankle (3 fractures and 1 dislocation) 2 years ago (Jan.8,2008) to be exact. I was getting down from a taxi and fell down right knee first and my left foot was caught in a broken seat belt and was strongly pushed back when I landed. I thought it was just a plain ankle sprain but when I was brought to the nearby hospital and did an x-ray they said I need an operation to put screws inside my ankle to be able to walk again. I refused and demanded to be released to have a 2nd opinion. The pain and the swelling was unbearable as I wait for the next morning to see an orthopedic surgeon. Pain killers were no longer effective as they gave me morphine to lessen the pain in my ankle while conducting MRI, CTScan and 8 x-rays. In short I was operated and 8 titanium screws were mounted inside my ankle. Four (4)months of agony were spent by not moving my ankle to be sure that the bones are align while its healing and muscles are growing covering those metals. I was able to stand without the aid of crutches and wheel chair after 6 months. On the 8 month I was able to make my first "baby step" .. and on my one year anniversary .. I was able to walk normally with my new ankle filled with titanium screws. I thought I would never be able to wear heels but I was after 1 year and half.. I lost a fortune and I lost my time having this operation. Now I am very careful with my movements as this experience really thought me a lesson to take good care of myself as NO ONE and NOBODY will ever be on your side forever to take care of you. I thank God that I was able to get my ankle back to normal and walk normally without any trace or sign that I have gone through that operation with screws inside my ankle.
