Pencil or Liquid eyeliner?
I am terribly new to makeup. I have pretty much learned how to apply lip gloss and powder only during college, and had recently discovered that applying a black eyeliner makes my eyes look bigger. (I really like the look!) Last month, I had scoured the makeup section of the local department store, and I got all confused by all the many choices! I finally decided to get a Maxfactor concealer, and a pencil eyeliner of a cheaper brand.
What got me more confused is, even if it says on the product that it's "extra waterproof", I get a raccoon look every time my eyes get watery. I have to constantly check on my compact mirror to make sure the black eyeliner particles are not falling beneath my eye.
Can you recommend an affordable yet great product that can really achieve the said "waterproof" feature? Is liquid eyeliner better? (Although I really like the natural look of the pencil-type one.)

I find liquid eyeliner to be messy and easy to rub off even after it dries. I imagine women that do use it... must reapply quite often and are one of those that run to the restroom every 10-20 minutes. I have only used liquid eyeshadow and I can pretty much deal with that, even though it is also runny-like.
I can only speak from my personal experience with pencil eyeliner. It's great!! I have all different types of colors from hot pink to black to blue to brown and other colors. I have been going for the Egyptian look lately since my eyes are slanted and it fits my Chinese bob haircut. I recommend you try the pencil eyeliner first to see if you like it!!

I would prefer to have the pencil eyeliner coz I know for sure that it would not give dirt on my face. Unlike the liquid, even for a little water or liquid it will scatter and you will look like have an black eye. Its not also easy to remove or do the retouch. So I would prefer the pencil than the liquid.

Thanks for slashing out the liquid eyeliner immediately. I won't look at them, ever! ;P
Can you recommend a good pencil eyeliner brand? :)

Having used both for the past 7 years, I can say that pencil id the way to go for me (I rim the inside of my eyelids, and you really don't want to do that with liquid liner ) however, instead of the regular pencil eyeliners, I prefer the ones that twist up and are self sharpening...rimmel and maybelline both make excellent versions. they go on much smoother than pencil, so you don't have to worry about the liner 'jumping' on your eyelid and giving you a broken line. they also go on drier than liquid ones, so you don't have to wait around with one eye closed so you don;t get black smudges all over your eye.

Thank you so much for the very helpful post! I'll look for that twist-up, self-sharpening one. It sounds like it's so convenient to use. :))

I use liquid eyeliner because I think it is easier to use. MAC and Maybelline make great ones. As far as pencil eyeliners go, I have no idea, because I never used them...

Depends what look you are going for, but pencil eyeliner is usually better. If you have a good liquid eyeliner that doesn't flake you should be okay though. It also depends on which one your better at applying, it took me a while to pick up a technique to apply the liquid eyeliner, it's very messy if your not good at it.
