Do you use the + or - to rate discussions & comments to help people's user rate?

I noticed last week that I now have a start with a 5 and I researched what it means. It's a user rating given by people who rate the discussions we post, and the comments we give, as well as whether we have discussions deleted, or comments deleted (when we have replied to a post that got deleted). I am thinking that I should probably try to start using that rating system to help people out when I think they have posted some good things. How much we earn can be affected by our user rating. My question here is... do you pay attention to the little + or - and make use of it? I am guessing that a lot of people don't - I haven't, until now. So after reading this discussion will you be more likely to pay attention to it and help your fellow MyLotters in the hopes that they will also help you?

I use it as explained in the FAQs. I too feel that many Lotters are not using it. Maybe they are not aware that it affects our earnings This is the link to the explanationin the FAQs just in case someone wants to learn how it should be used: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx

One thing that I don't understand though, and I don't know if you know the answer to it... is there a way to see who is rating you? Or at least a rating that you got on a discussion? I would think that knowing what we're getting rated up- or down- on would be helpful for us even if we don't know exactly which users are rating. I suppose knowing which users are rating could create trouble in thinking about it.

Ratings are anonymous. There is no way to know which users are rating us either with a plus or with a negative rating. I think it is best that we don't know.

Oh, yes, I do agree. I think I got a little bit confusing there in my question. So... who rated you is anonymous. But is there a way to see that you HAVE been rated in your discussion? Or do you only know when your rating start changes? For example, I can see when I give someone a rating - it says that I rated the comment/discussion. So, is there a way for me to also see that my discussion has also been rated by others? I'm thinking probably not... Thank you for sharing all the great information with us.

I always rate responses and discussions. If someone deserves a good rating I'll be the one to give it to them. If they like to pick fights on here well then that deserves a -! We're actually supposed to make use of the rating tool, we are helping each other out by doing it too, providing a more accurate star rating for everyone.

I guess that makes sense. I have run into one or two people like that, but thankflly not more than that. I guess this is a good way to let them know that it's not appreciated but... do you think people pay attention to user rating when replying to discussions? Or is it more likely just a way to keep their earnings lower so the better users get to earn more due to rating?

Hmm that's a good question. It's not that I'm trying to affect their earnings. I never thought about that though. It's just the unhelpful, rude people shouldn't be running around with a star rating of 10.

I make it a point to use the positive ratings every time I participate in any post. That is my way of rewarding the person who created an interesting post for me. It is hard to find an interesting post so if I find one I think the poster deserves some reward.

I like this idea. I'll try to remember to do the same now. I agree with your reasoning here. :) Thanks!

I always use it, and use it properly. I don't rate negative unless someone is rude and obnoxious, or a user will post their referral links in the discussion area. It can be abused too, so we need to read the faws and guidelines on the proper way to use the system. I think we can all help each other by using it the way it should. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Hi shira! Yes I do. A + or none. A good, a creative post or comment, one that stirs up the emotions does deserve a good rating. It's also to encourage more good posts and comments and tells the posters that his/her hard work has not been in vain.

Yes, I am seeing how it would be good for people to strive to make posts that others are likely to rate positively. I wonder how many people actually do bother to rate the discussions, though. I hope a lot!

I hit the + button whenever I really like the post. And only the + button. No negativities. :))
