I have personally used Registry Cleaner, Advance System Optimizer and Registry Mechanics, Auslogic Disk Defrag. Non worked the way I wanted them to be. Infact, the Defraggers and cleaners came with the Vista system worked better than them. Am I actually using those softwares correctly? or is vista actually pretty good

Well I am using Piriform CCleaner software and am very much satisfied with it. It deletes all the unnecessary registry and temp files within seconds and hence increase the efficiency of your system. So according to me, its one of the best software and Worth a TRY!!! take care :)

Apple Mac OS has no Registry so doesn't need any Registry Cleaner. Mac OS has third parties Applications Cleaner although there are other ways just like charlestng had specified. We have third parties defragmentations applications but it is not necessarily to have. The only basic regular maintenance for Apple Mac OS are to scan the systems "Permissions" setups and cleaning-up unwanted applications and files, including internet temporary files, and updating. These regular maintenance won't take a longer time and they are easy to be done by once a week or by once a month.

I do not know about mac but for PC the best registry cleaner/optimizer/booster is uniblue registry booster. It works best as you can set it automatically to optimize your PC daily.
