Ok. Here's the thing: I'm a first year college student attending Michigan Tech University in Houghton MI. My cell carrier now is Cellcom, but we have state-wide plan only, and I live in WI. So i need a new cell phone. I've been looking and looking and I think at&t is the best deal. So I went to the dealer and he said I needed a $500 deposit! Woa! He said it has to do with my credit score. Well first off, I'm 18 and going to college..I doubt if i have a credit score. My parents are being stupid about it but hopefully they'll help. Any advice?

Actually, it is pretty typical for the cell phone companies to charge a deposit. Especially for those that have no credit/ bad credit. They should give it back after a year or so of having your account in good standing. They will apply it to your account.
