Are we alone in the universe?

Probably the most profound question is "are we alone in the universe?" I'm not just talking about UFO's and alien abduction stuff, but more on the scientific proof whether there is life beyond our mother Earth. Recent NASA expeditions to other planets in our galaxy reveal the strong possibility that life does exist beyond our own planet. Whats your take on this?

There are billions of planets that have conditions like Earth - water, air, carbon, comparative distance from a sun.
The likelihood that life in some form could have started there as well is almost close to certainty.
It is interesting to conjecture why we haven't met some creature from such a planet.
If it interests you I'll point out 5 reasons.

1. There are people that claim that we HAVE been contacted in the past, but for some reasons they have not contacted us recently.
2. Maybe they are wary of us and feel that we are not ready for their contact.
3. It is likely that the technology of contact is still out of our reach, that they also haven't succeeded in crossing such large distances.
4. True that there possibly are very many life forms in other planets. One of them though has to be the MOST advanced. Maybe it's us !
5. The most worriesome reason is that maybe a civilization that has developed an atom bomb doesn't live long after that !!!!!

it would be pure arrogance to think that we were the only planet that is supporting life.
we can't know for sure until we find definite proof, but just through probability, it's almost certain that there is.
all you need to do is look at the stars. thousands of them, more than you could ever count, and that's just the ones you can see. there are thousands more you can't
each of those stars may or may not have an orbiting group of planets. maybe none. maybe one or two, maybe even hundreds. surely at least one of those stars must be orbited by a planet whose atmosphere and proximity to it's sun are suitable for life. bearing in mind that any life on that planet will have evolved to suit it's atmosphere, like we have evolved to live in our planets atmosphere.
there MUST be life out there. the chances of there being no other life anywhere else in the entire universe would be miniscule. almost impossible, but of course until we find other life, there is that tiny change of there not being any. but we couldn't say definitively that there is no life unless we explored every planet around every star in the entire universe. and it would take quite a massive exploration to be certain that there is no life.
so there will never be a day that we can say for certain that we are the only planet with life. and thinking that there is more likely to be no life than some life somewhere seems to be very foolish and small minded.
I suppose some people just need to feel special, and thinking that there are other planets and other lifeforms out there where they mean nothing makes them feel small.
but in terms of the universe, we are small. virtually insignificant.
all we can do is live as good a life as we can, here and now, and on our own planet. in the scheme of the universe it may be nothing, but if you make life better for someone else, be that by saving lives, or just by being polite and friendly, then you've made the huge universe a better place.

I couldn't agree any less. With all the wars and conflicts happening to our world right now, one small act of a good deed makes a huge difference in the grand scheme.

to us, and to other lives, yes. but in terms of the universe, even as a species we have hardly existed for any time at all. blink and you miss it.
rather than thinking that nothing matters because of this, I see it that in the grand scheme of things, we have less of an impact than our each individual bacteria cell in our gut has on us.
so instead of worrying about the grand scheme of things, we should think small. make the world better for one person at a time.
it's like that saying, to the world you are one person, but to one person you could be the world.
we may not be the one to cure cancer, or the one that writes a peice of music that moves millions, but we could give someone a lift when they see us, or help someone that needs help.
small things are just that. they are small. but we are small beings, and if we strive to make life better, even in the smallest ways, then life is better.

Hi, Bry!
It's pretty illogical to expect that this is all there is. If life exists on this planet, given the vastness of the universe, surely there's life elsewhere. It may not be like our life form, but it's there, somewhere. I'd love to be around when it's finally found!

No. Of course we're not alone. Where do you think lunch ladies come from?

I think that at this point in time, it would be crazy to think that earth is the only planet that hosts life. I do not doubt that life has popped up throughout the universe, and I'm sure some of that life is intelligent. Sadly, I don't really think humans will ever come across an alien species, but I still hope that one day in my lifetime we at least discover another planet that is capable of hosting life.

It is just no rightto imagine or suppose that we are alone in the Universe. The questioning could begin from Is there just One Universe or many? For that matter is ours a Universe or a Multiverse where the dimensions are enmeshed?
Now leaving such questions apart and assuming that there are other solar systems within our own Universe but so many lightyears away that why Intelligent Beings even a radio signal, takes say a million years to reach us thus making it impossible to even conclude that the civilization living there is in the same stage of development as the signal- assume that this signal was a movie/documentary broadcast on their lifestyle- should it all be received here by serendipity and watched?
In short I would say even if there are such intelligent life that is comparable or more advanced than us and they are light years away then is there a way of knowing hence believing...

Well many say that we are alone and some say we are not.. while some don't have any opinion.. I think the probability of we being alone in the universe is not 100% ... I consider that we are not alone.

I don't believe that we are alone in the universe. it is so vast and unknown to us yet. There is so much possibility that something else can exist out there.

I think it wouldn't be far from now before we can discover a living organism from outer space. And it could be very near us. If I am not mistaken, there maybe frozen waters underneath mars (?) Who knows what could be there? Bacteria? Fungi? Fish?? Plankton?
We will just gonna have to wait and see.

i just think that the rest of the universe does not exist for nothing.
so there must be something out there.
i don't mind about not being able to know what they are; because they are there and we are here, and everything seems to work well that way~ haha(^_^)

Well if they're right i have to say that it's kind of creepy but at the same time it's a whole new prospective of our universe...the way we see it, that is. However, I'd rather be more at peace if it could be confirm that we're alone in the universe...I'm not a fan of UFO and alien abduction and stuff...but i admit i do watch some of those Hollywood movies and sometimes you can't wondering...freaky!!!

I always wonder that I think there is other human life or something like I do believe in aliens, why would the universe be so big for only us.I don't think there green or weird looking who knows aliens might look like people to.
