Guitar Tricks I use

This is probably the worst thing a guitarist can do... admit he cheats. well i'm not really a pure guitarist since i started out on bass and just transferred things i learned on bass to guitar at first my solos were a bit weird to my bandmates cause i relied heavily on the lower 4 strings EADG (or if you're looking at your guitar, it would be the thicker strings on top) playing on those strings gave me a heavier tone every time it was my lead solo and here's cheat number 1 i'd turn towards my drummer and act as if we were jamming just s people wouldn't see me using the EADG strings. 2. i'd pick and palm mute at the same time giving me dead notes every now and then which made me sound like a drummer or giving apercussive edge to my solos 3. never ever think practicing scales is boring... they've gotten me through a lot of gigs i'd insert a pentatonic run with a chromatic run and go for a bluesy swing to my phrasing ( i relied heavily on my drummer) hammer onsand pull offs are your best friends and if you want to go for an excitng sound learn to pnch harmonic i did all this in a death metal band when i finally struck out on my own i brought all of these things plus i studied under a good teacher how to finally learn how to use all the strings i usually hum my solos to myself just so i'd be able to make it sound spontaneous and not like a glorified practice session as i got older i relied moreonlegato and excessive use of distortion, delay, feedback and knowledge where to place my fingers next so practice those pentatonics and chromatics and myxolydian scales and try to come up with a combination of your own best of all tapping is a great trick too when push comes to shove

That is not cheating... that is improvising. Every musician has his own unique way of playing and that is your trademark. And I know what you are talented because you have musical terms which I only have vague ideas. I only play by ears and sometimes I improvise with pentatonics just like you. And of course, sometimes I make it look harder with showmanship although veteran musicians would recognize it otherwise. To the audience it wouldn't matter anyway, right?

oh hehehe the only thing i'm really skilled at is the usage of pentatonic scale (minor and major) chromatic scale a foot to tap my distortion pedal same foot for the delay pedal hahaha

If only I could be skillful as you! My arm had a history of fracture, ah, it was because of high school stupidity, experimenting with the skateboard even if the science class is over. lol. I lack speed because my arms are a little bit twisted so I play rhythm, I do the palm muted parts sometimes and the harmonics too, I leave all the fast stuff to Raymond, the lead guitarist. He just lacks skills on the scaling part but he could do covers nicely.

Major, minor and Pentatonic Scales do work for me! Indeed, practicing scales has never been boring. Doing your solo feels like your on top of everybody else. Recently, I've been into acoustic mode of feel as I want something that's more soulful. Taping, hammers, bends, pull offs, vibrato, legato, and sweep pick makes it all to be on the soloing list!
