How do you and your dogs fight the heat?

It seems those hot days aren't over yet. I don't like heat, summer is not my favorite season.
For Binne this is the first summer of her life. She seems to withstand the heat pretty well. But I still want to make her more confortable during the hot afternoons.
Any ideeas on how to help our dogs fight the heat?

I'm glad to hear there are people who like summer. If summer meant temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius, maybe I'd like summer too.
Me too, I like to go camping but, you see, we can't have holydays whenever we want...
How about your three Shar Pei, do they like the summer heat?

I've never seen anyone or animal love the heat. Hence air conditioning running full tilt and lots of people and dogs at the beaches.

i put electric fan on the floor so it would be on him.i also put water nearby just incase if he gets thirsty.thats about it.its better to keep him indoors during day time.

I had to comment on that picture, that is more or less how Ciara deals with the heat..Penny does too, but not as much as Ciara since she has the longer hair.. Other than making sure they ALWAYS have water, they also lie on top of the fan or when they are outside they lie down in the shade..
Myself, I drink plenty of water and sit near the fan..I also occasionally splash water on my face to cool me down..

Hi inu~ I feel sorry for Binne and all dogs, cats and other
animals who have to deal with this horrible heat! I have two
cats and they won't even let me try to make thm more comfortable
by putting them in the bedroom when I do put the air conditioner
on (which is rare). The kind of stay near the fans so I guess
they have figured that out on their own!

It seems you also don't like the heat too much, do you?
I remember the summers a few years ago, they wasn't so hot! But this year I feel like suffocating. Fortunately the heat doesn't seem to bother Binne too much. I'm the one who worries too much for her...
Sometimes I wet her coat a little, especially on the forehead and legs, but I'm afraid she won't catch a cold, as she sleeps in the air flow. I suppose wetting the coat of a cat to cool her down is out of the question, isn't it?

I hate the summer too. My dogs aren't too crazy abut the humid days. Mostly they, uh, WE just hang out in the A/C cooled living room. I did shave the belly and legs of my collies to help them out a little. - they look ridiculous but they feel a lot cooler.
Mainly we go out early morning before it gets hot and late at night when it cools (just a hair sometimes) and in the afternoon.. they go out but, after 5 minutes they run back inside. They're not fools.. lol

It means there are two of us who hate summer.
I usually take Binne for a walk early in the morning, before I leave to work, and late in the afternoon, after the sun goes down. At noon we just get out for she pee & poo.
I'm more disturbed by the heat than she is. But we both miss the hikings, as we can't go to the woods when it's hot outside. We went hiking two days ago, when it seemed a bit cooler outside, but even with plenty of water and shadow, Binne was panting like hell.

Well dogs naturally beat the heat via panting, but It's always important to keep plenty of water available for your pets to drink. When possible exercise your dog in the cooler parts of the mornings and evenings. If you keep your dogs outside make sure there is plenty of shade for them to relax in. Don't be surprised if you find them digging holes to lounge in during those steamy afternoons. If you do have outside does, I'd recommend investing in one of those plastic kiddie pools everyone had growing up. :) Dogs love wading around in them when its hot.
If your pet is an inside dog, hopefully you have air conditioning. If you're unlucky like me and live in an apartment/home that lacks AC be sure to have plenty of open windows to keep air flowing for them. Fans can be a godsend as well. On really hot days we can't pry our American bulldog Lucy away from her fan. She'll move her bed over in front of it and spend the whole day there!

I imagine Lucy moving her bed over in front of the fan! Binne doesn't want any bedding during the hot days, she lies down to the bare floor, like you can see in the picture. The hallway is her favorite spot to lay down in a hot day. Maybe that's because there is a little air flow in there. She still goes there even if I start the air conditioning in the livingroom.

I have a yellow lab, he's a short hair, but he sheds like crazy.
I shaved him down a couple of weeks ago, and that seems to help him out.
I have a fan where he sleeps and that helps as well. I don't take him out during the hottest part of the day, and keep him hydrated. I don't take him for long walks anyways, he's older and can't tolerate it so well anymore.

I haven't seen a shaved lab before, how does he look?
Binne was recently stripped, so she doesn't have too much hair left.
When it comes to take her out, I try to make the noon walks as short as I can, but she doesn't seem to suffer too much. She loves to be outside, to meet her canine friends and play with the children from the neighbourhood!
As for the inside, we have a mobile air conditioning unit, but I think it wasn't installed properly, because it cools the air inside the livingroom but it eliminates the hot air into the venting, so all the heat goes into the bathroom. That's why we can't use it for a long time, we have to keep some balance between the temperature inside the livingroom and the temperature inside the bathroom...
