It's a race, and the notifications are winning...
I was on vacation for a week and a half, and now my myLot notifications are staying up in the 800's. I'm trying to get caught up, but reality says that I'm going to have to be doing some deleting.
What do you do when things spiral out of control? Delete? Burn? Or actually find some time and tackle it all?
And why am I posting a new discussion when I should be getting caught up?

I think you should go through each and every notification and tackle them all - hee hee! I rarely look at the notifications . . . I just depend on the home page and profile to tell me what's going on. I guess that's about all I have time for! But, I'll be on a lookout for certain myLot friends (like you ) and try to get to their discussions if I can. If it's a race between the rabbit and the turtle, then I'm the snail . . . I'll get there when/if I get there!

That's pretty much how I was doing it. Problem was, I was missing two things that I really wanted to see:
1. discussions by certain people on the other side of the world and
2. responses to my replies that weren't on the first page of the 'replied' tab
so I turned them all on. I must say it's been a mixed blessing...

So, why do I answer in a 1 week old discussion? To spam your inbox? To scream and cry if you don't notice the notification and answer? You might have put everything on automatical deletion since then ....
I delete. I see which discussions I've got answers in, and check them when I'm here. And as I just posted two discussions for the first time in ages I can understand those who don't really answer everything *he he*
As for reality, it's all just shadows on the walls of a cave, isn't it? At least some old person from Greece said so, and old persons from Greece should be taken seriously.

Hi dawny
Why indeed are you starting discussions when you should be catching up haha. I usually go through the notificaitons and see which one's I am going to respond to and then delete the rest. Sometimes I get so far behind I just delete them all because I really just can't catch up, life around mylot still goes on!! haha

Personally I would get knuckled down with them, will give you something to do and to keep busy with :)
I wish I would get that many to be honest with you, but it seems the only friend requests I ever get are just people wanting me to sign under their ref link lol, although admittedly I havn't been active as much recently, been busy with some other things :)
Oh well, good luck getting through them, a couple of busy nights for you :)
Lee.

I get an awful lot like that also. New policy: don't accept friend requests unless they have more than zero posts.

oh. so that is the reason why you look always energetic, and catch up with the latest around in mylot. I was wondering how you are able to manage with all the notifications. ... you are so sleek and deceptive! ..
how about tutoring me the tricks? .. sometime every weekend? .. just requesting vandy! ...

S'ok I delete too sometimes. Some things I just don't really have a reply to anyway...

I have them all checked off to be sent to my junk mail. From there, I never delete them or read them. It leaves me more time for mylot.

So why not just turn them off and not get them at all?

Yeah it does take time all right. I had them all turned off, and when I went in to turn them on, I had to do a few pages at a time!

I have 2,000 mylot email in my inbox right now and nothing else. I keep on top of the other stuff easily enough. But I took a sabbatical from mylot for a little while and the email piled up and up. I have them in my inbox from a year ago even. I don't delete them unless the person is no longer active or have an account. I get to them as I can. When I can. little here, little there.

I plough through. I read and mostly delete anyway so I sometimes speed up the process by deleting those I normally end up deleting anyway.
You are posting a new discussion because you can. I wish i could come up with discussions as easily as you do.

'Cause you're crazy, that's why! LOL
I don't have as many as that, but it is up there. I just can't seem to find the time to respond to them all. To make matters worse I bookmark discussions and save them for later and they aren't even from notifications. So I just keep swamping myself more and more.
I did sort through most of them out at one time or another. I just need to do it again as they're really starting to pile up. But one thing's for certain. I don't dare start a new discussion until I take care of some of these. Otherwise it'll really get out of hand and I'll get a headache from it all! LOL
Good luck playing catch up...that is, if you decide to go the route. With that many maybe you should just delete them instead.
Happy mylotting!

I have never had as many as 800 although I have been behind before! I am lucky to have a great deal of time here to keep up to date except during school holidays when the notifications build up because I am not here as much. If I had 800 I guess I would take a lot of time to catch up and if I didn’t have that time, I would have to start culling them; taking a quick glance and deciding whether to keep or trash. Good luck with it...

I had a similiar discussion one time. I had started because my computer from home was being fixed and I wasn't catching up on the work computers! Bad move on my part! I must of broke the rulles and had the discussion deleted! I did catch yp when my pc came but my discussion didn't cut it!

Hi dear,
In the last month even I was away for 20 days of vocation. At that time there were about that much of mails in my in-box. It was difficult for me to answer all and even read all of them. But, within 4-5 days I gone through all and which are found worth I discussed all of them and which are found irrelevant, I deleted.
You also can do the same, just take few days and go through all of them. And delete one by one or if you found out dated, can delete all at a length. New and more discussions will come up so, if you found it is old enough to discuss, not a matter, you can delete.
Regards,
Thank-s

Stay on here for about 3 years and accept every friend request that you get, and then see how many notifications you have.

I delete some occasionally, especially if somebody posts dozens and dozens of discussions all on the same day!

Wow! That's a lot of notifications. As you can see, I'm new so I've never gotten that many. But with other sites, like Facebook, when I get a huge number of notifications, I'm paranoid about possibly missing something important so I always go through each one of them.

A bit of all of the above, lol. I'll skim through and read titles, and if it catches my interest I'll leave it until I have time to get to it.. if I don't like the title I'll delete immediately and move on to the next.

I take the easy way, anytime I get behind I delete and start fresh. Lately I have been behind a great deal, I hope no one feels badly if they haven't heard from me for a while. I will also just choose one discussion from each friend per day to answer, that helps keep the volumn down.

Well, I know that there are a lot of people that will turn off their notifications on all sites when they are away. Then there are the other people that will let everything build up while they are gone and then do a mass delete when they return home. I honestly don't think that anyone's feelings will be hurt if you were to decide to delete all of the notifications that you have in your inbox that are left over from your vacation and start over fresh.
