1994 all over again?

For those of us old enough to remember 1994, this year has a very similar feel to it. You have to a bad economy, Democrats run the entire government, and voters are upset about the direction of the country. What I don't understand is why Republicans want to make the same mistake they did that year: Take over both houses and basically take over the government. If they allow Democrats to hold on to their majority, than they can blame EVERYTHING on Democrats and beat Obama in 2012. Does this make sense to anyone?

Of course. I feel safe in saying the majority here no mater what affiliation agree that either side will always blame the other. I think they should all shut the heck up and work on actually fixing the problem. I know, crazy but it is just my opinion.

They'll do it anyway. Like someone already said, Democrats already have the majority yet they still blame the republicans. It's "monkey see, monkey do". When Republicans have their turn, they'll return every treatment the dems gave them, and probably then some.

You are correct, I am sure that if republicans win in November we will see investigations into EVERYTHING Obama has done. Grid lock will be the norm, and nothing will get done.

Maybe. But the big question is how much more damage can they do in the next year and half that can't necessarily be fixed?

I think that your statement fits both parties Sierras.

Yeah, probably. Most likely would have said the same thing if this mess had been in Republican hands.

Face it-Both sides do the wrong thing every time and never learn from experience. We need checks and balances. A party in complete control is never a good idea. Both sides get loopy and do stupid things.

I do agree that no party can govern when they have total control of the government. But, no one has told either party this.

Because they love power and they don't like not having it. Let's face it the president is the poster boy. The real power is in congress. Congress controls what bills are written, how they written, what gets allowed to come up for a vote and votes on them. And if they get enough of majority the can override a presidential veto if Obama decides to veto a bill they pass.
So having the presidency is nice and all...but if you really want control of what is done and how it is done....the house and senate is what you want.

That is very true Lil, but no one is assuming that Republicans will have enough votes for a veto proof majority. But, I do agree with your power assessment.

Why do you think Democrats have to be in power for Republicans to blame things on them? Democrats have complete control and they're still blaming Republicans. What makes you think the Republicans aren't going to do the same?

You do have a good point DB (I know I can't believe I just said that either), but it is much more believable when what you are saying is TRUE!!!

Very true...both sides just blame the other side...no matter who is really to blame...because "they" are never to blame...only the "other" guys.

If the Republicans (a big assumption) are smart they will push their agenda of tax cut and spending cuts. they will push a bill to secure the border only. They will defund Obama Care and will start to fix the health care system one piece at a time. This way they are forcing the President to veto the bills and becoming the party of no. They have to tell the American People that the Democrats policies did not work and they will not try the Republican solutions. Doing nothing at least won't make things any worse. Using the bill they tried to get passed as the platform for 2012. Without the president they can put in new ethic rules in place for Congress and show the people they are serious about reforming the government. D i c k Morris has some suggestions for that:
http://thehill.com/ do a search for Contract with America for 2010. My lot will not let me use his first name and the full web address has his first name in it.

Bob, the problem with their agenda is that tax cuts haven't worked (the GAO proved that), they haven't shown the American people that if they get power they actually WILL cut spending, and they have NEVER show ANY desire to secure our boarder. This is why republicans aren't winning every primary, and their candidates, are losing to "tea party" people. The RNC made a huge mistake by expecting people to just vote for the "other guy". They made no attempt to distance themselves from their past (the Bush years that created many of the problems today), and bring new ideas. All of the ideas that you have mentioned have been tried in the past with very little to NO success, and the American people know it.
"Doing nothing at least won't make things any worse"
Our national debt will still increase due to interest on that debt, our boarder will still be open, and health care will increase at least 25% per year. That sure sounds worse to me!!!!
By the way, I wouldn't listen to one word D!ck "age of Obama" Morris has to say. The only thing he cares about is D!ck Morris!!!!!!
