http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/beauty/teen-pageant-winner-decrowned-after-dyeing-hair-brown-2293661/ Above is a link to an article I just read about a 15 year old girl who won a beauty pageant in New Zealand. When she won the crown, she was blond. Then she decided to dye her hair brown and the pageant organizer, Ms. Osborne, did not approve at all. Osborne was not amused by the hair change and made sure her feelings were heard. The teen girl said that if she was not allowed to dye her hair, maybe pageant life was not meant for her. Osborne agreed and accepted the crown back. Adding salt to the wound, she said that she did not believe the teen girl would go too far with that kind of attitude. The organization behind the pageantry gave mixed messages when contact. At first they supported Osborne's actions and said that when the teen won the crown, it was under the expectation that she will represent the crown the same way she won it- meaning no changes to her appearance. Then later responded saying that it was not about the hair dye, but the attitude the teen girl demonstrated. Is it me or is this just crazy? I'm not someone who follows pageants to begin with- not my thing, but it seems like the pageant world has gone extreme. All this began because a teen girl decided to dye her hair? Wow, what kind of message are they sending to girls? Don't ever change. You have to fit this special appearance and that's it. I don't know. Maybe it's just me.

That's completely ridiculous. She won the pageant. It's done and over with. Let the girl dye her hair now. Is she supposed to wear the dress she wore for the next year until someone else is crowned too? Completely stupid.

I agree completely. It is ridiculous. Maybe they should just put the girl in a plastic bag for a year until they crown another winner. That way she'll stay the same throughout her reigning year. *roll eyes*

oh.. this is weird stuff. but i guess the board of the pageant must first decide amongst themselves and they should have a spokesperson so not all of them will say many different things about the same issue - its just not reflective of what is expected of them. In this case too, the beauty queen winner already had the sympathy of the people because she just dyed her hair, and unless it was strictly included in the contract of her winnings, etc... then she is not supposed to be decrowned over such a petty issue.
